First, thank you for your suggestions of ways to use the Muddy Dog building in Unionville Iowa.
We were overwhelmed by the number of comments, ideas, memories, and encouragement you shared. We read every one of them. Your responses reminded us of something we've known for a long time: people are hungry for places that bring them together.
For those unaware of our history, Muddy Dog closed last August (2025) due to health reasons of the owner. But the community support of the restaurant/bar was extraordinary, for which we hold many precious memories. You can see the rich stories, family gatherings, fun events, and great food by looking through our page.
For a business located in a town of roughly 100 people, Muddy Dog had a great reach and impact. We served customers from four surrounding counties, welcomed travelers passing through, hunters during the season, families celebrating milestones, and people simply looking for a good meal and a place to connect.
Nearly 3,000 people continue to follow this page. The support this community and region have shown us over the years has been extraordinary, and we have never taken that for granted.
The health issues have not subsided but that doesn't stop us from wanting to see this building be of use again to the community. Our ambition sometimes exceeds the physical capacity but unfortunately we are reminded that we cannot commit to a new venture at this time.
The building is for sale, available to lease, or to rent for one-time special events.
Many of your comments painted a picture of what that future could look like: pizza nights, coffee shops, vendor markets, live music, workshops, craft classes, event rentals, farmers markets, ice cream, hobby groups, family activities, community meals, and gathering spaces where people simply enjoy being together.
So, while this chapter may be ending for us, perhaps it's the beginning of someone else's dream and those ideas may inspire you.
This location has already proven that people will come. Positioned in the center of four counties, it draws from far more than Unionville alone.
Thank you for believing in us, supporting Muddy Dog, sharing your ideas, and being part of this story. We will always be grateful for the memories made within those walls and for the people who filled them with laughter, conversations, and life.

Who knows? The next great chapter may already be sitting in someone's heart.
Please share the link if you know of a visionary who is seeking an opportunity that this location could support.
Thank you again, God bless.
