We were delighted to meet Drew and Chris earlier this week, from Civil War Trails, as they visited to refresh the plaque near the monument. While here, they also maintained the other Civil War Trails plaques around town. The one in the image has been updated with better graphics, including an image of Allen Taylor Caperton, in his prime, painted by Samuel Bell Waugh, on loan here from his descendents. Drew and Chris have quite a large territory to cover, (over 200000 square miles!)and they told us some fascinating stories of their duties. We thanked them for all they do and invited them back for a longer visit.

Do you recall the Monroe County historical tour/re-enactment event from 2018? The generous donations made are now being utilized to construct a long-awaited new fence at Elmwood Cemetery. Bill Miller, owner of Miller’s Fencing, is delivering his signature high-quality work, and the new fence will provide sturdy protection for the final resting places of those dearly departed within its borders. Note that it seemed only the poison oak was holding up the old posts. Not now the new fence should last a long long time.
