“The waters hardly noticed, they were far too concerned with their own purposes to even bother with my effort.
When they crashed at my feet,
it sent the best kind of chills up my spine-but that only happened if it was convenient for them.
They’d never go out of their way just to find their way to me.

While my initial thought for today’s prompt was a photo with a lot of ocean spray crashing near me, I decided to share a photo from a shoot a few years ago with a gentle incoming tide.
And that choice was 100% intentional and not bc I didn’t have time to get a very Ariel esc wave crashing photo 😂
I think it’s really poetic for the prompt organizers to have chosen seafoam for the last day as I often think of the ending of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid story when the Little Mermaid turns to sea foam. But also seafoam can be a symbol of rebirth in how Aphrodite was born from sea foam (and other god parts 😂 iykyk). So just like the tides, seafoam is a great symbol of endings and rebirth.
So while today is the last day of it’s certainly not an ending for anything for me. I always enjoy MerMay as a way to explore my mersona more creatively through the prompts. It helps me expand my lore and explore fun new ways to take photos and content.
And speaking of new things… stay tuned for tomorrow for a very special announcement!! 🎨

Look Prásinos! This structure has a Nereid symbol on it. I wonder… *blasts trident energy to the base of the structure* Woah! It looks like one of the time portals, but there’s no time currents near here, when does this one even lead?
For day 29 of MerMay the prompt is and I had the idea to expand my mersona lore!
So the idea is is that my trident can create portals to other times via special water currents. Some currents are super common such as ones that lead to Ancient Greece in the time of Odysseus, Jason and Heracles. Therefore those serve as fun field trips for nereids in training.
Then there are currents which are more rare, which unfortunately are to times when tragedies at sea strike, such as the Titanic, and despite wanting to send forces to help, it’s physically impossible due to how rare that current flows.
Whale, when Prásinos and I stumbled upon this stone structure, we saw it had a Court of Nereid’s symbol carved on it, plus a gemstone conductor. So I did what any curious fishie with a trident would. I gave it a blast with my trident 🔱 😂. Turns out the structure can create portals to anytime! No waiting or finding the right current. Any time in the past I want to go to I can with this unique structure. Now just where, or rather when, should I go…

Surprise! Today’s a double post day! For the prompt I also wanted to share my portrait I drew. This portrait is part of a series I’m working on with drawing all of my gemstone podmates with their chosen gemstone in the background, mine of course being Alexandrite, and then offering them as prints at Gemstone Mermaids events.
I’ve already drawn a few of my podmates and hope to do more this summer!

Shello fables and fairytales! Today’s MerMay prompt is so my immediate thought was to have my mersona drawn in the style of Ever After High, a really cool doll line and online web series from years ago (still sad it was canceled 😢). Anywhoozles! So I commissioned .bee_ to draw my mersona as I really love her Ever After High fanart and here’s what she created!

“Elegance is not standing out, but being remembered.” — Giorgio Armani
Whalecome to day 24 of MerMay! We’re almost to the end, oh mer goodness. Today’s prompt is and as a fashion student, I really had to think how I wanted to go about this prompt. Would a mermaid wear human clothes and call it avant garde? What is considered typical fashion styles under the sea for something then to be seen as avant garde? Would something that’s avant garde to merfolk just look “normal” to humans as oh of course mermaids would dress like that.
After mulling all of that over I decided I wanted to play with fun shapes for my design. I imagined some fun structural elements made of coral, a collar, arm bracers, semi sheer bodice and a sash skirt thingy, and of course accessorized with a little coral tiara in her hair.
⭐️ What other fashions would you imagine to see at a mermaid fashion show? I wonder what a mermaid luxury fashion house would be called?

Sometimes aboard the ship, the Otter Pirates Crew will ask me to sing with them, so I’ll take out my lyre and strum along with them.
Later after everyone’s tired from stomping in tune around the ship I’ll pluck a few melodies, finishing off with a lullaby while they trudge off to their hammocks.
Today is day 20 of and today’s prompt is and I asked .izira if she could draw me playing my lyre, which I’m Totally planning to finish this summer 😅. And oh mer gosh I’ve been loving all of her MerMay drawings this year! And overall I just love her artwork! Thank you fishie for drawing this for me!
