I have had a few people send this to me in light of the recent Kentucky Derby. I have never seen this photo. Very few photos exist with the windmill on the top of the barn, even fewer with Spokane in front of the barn.

Pictured today is thoroughbred stallion Spokane, on the left, in front of the Doncaster Round Barn located outside of Twin Bridges. Spokane was born in this barn, which still stands today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Spokane was the winner of the Kentucky Derby in 1889. He was the only horse foaled and trained in Montana to ever win the Kentucky Derby. Spokane's win coincidentally occurred the same year that Montana became a state!

Snap a pic and show it to the crew working and they will hook you up. Happy trash picking!!

Such a beautiful picture!

How can summer feel like eons ago yet somehow also feel like it was just last week?my sense of time has been a bit wonky this year, and I'm probably not alone in that. I got pretty busy around when I took this and I just realized I never got around to posting it. It wasn't someone came asking if I had any shots of home that I remember my shot of the round barn in Twin. Home of Montana's only Kentucky Derby winner! Thanks for the reminder Logan.

This round barn is just too cool, so I had to share it in black and white. This barn is a historic landmark in Montana because it was training grounds to Spokane, the horse that WON the Kentucky Derby in 1889! To see this in color and for more history, check out the post in my stories or visit
The most colorful thing in the world is black and white, it contains all colors and at the same time excludes all.

Tomorrow, 4/22, is Earth Day. If you are out and about cleaning up trash stop in to The Shack in Twin for a free ice cream cone, sponsored by The Round Barn. Take a photo as proof to show Alisa. Our roads are really bad this spring and could use some serious love.
