The Twentynine Palms Book Festival will now take place November 13–15 at the Community Center by Freedom Plaza.

October and early November are becoming some of the busiest cultural weekends in the Morongo Basin, with events such as the Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours, Pioneer Days, the historic Weed Show, and the Levitt AMP Concert Series, which will bring five weekends of free live music to Twentynine Palms.

Moving the festival to mid-November allows authors, readers, and visitors to enjoy the event without competing with these major cultural happenings.

The festival will feature three days of conversations, workshops, book signings, and a vibrant book fair, along with offsite reading events across Twentynine Palms.

🎬 The festival will open with Desert Noir, an invitation-only industry day on Thursday, November 12, pairing noir authors with screenwriters, filmmakers, and producers interested in literary adaptation.

Guest authors and vendors who have already confirmed their participation will be contacted individually within the next 24 hours.

Full festival activation begins at the end of March.

The Twentynine Palms Book Festival Returns Oct 23–25, 2026 ✨

We’re excited to announce the dates for next year’s festival as we enter a new chapter in the evolution of this desert literary gathering. After three successful editions, the festival is growing into a true regional destination for readers, writers, and a rising number of publishing and entertainment professionals.

In 2026, we’ll expand our programming, deepen our ties to the literary and film industries, and welcome even more out-of-town visitors to experience the Mojave’s creative energy.

Next year’s sessions will explore:

🌌 Stargazing & cosmic storytelling
🌿 Native American heritage stories
📘 Memoirs & personal narratives
❤️ Romance fiction’s modern voices

Plus crime fiction, nonfiction, children’s literature, indie author workshops, and a book fair featuring up to 50 exhibitors.

And launching the day before the festival: DESERT NOIR, a new industry-focused event developed with NoirCon, spotlighting noir fiction ideal for film adaptation in the Mojave.

Desert Noir — Coming 2026

Launching in 2026, Desert Noir is a new year-round initiative from the Twentynine Palms Book Festival and the organizers of NoirCon. Its mission: pair powerful noir fiction and nonfiction stories with screenwriters, producers, and directing talent ready to bring them to the screen.

Each year, Desert Noir will spotlight a curated selection of stories ideal for fast, affordable production—feature films shot in 3–4 weeks, under $1M, in striking Mojave Desert locations. Projects are designed to leverage California’s rural film tax incentives, local production resources, and the desert’s natural cinematic power.
