A little info about the Stateline Spectacular Jackpot Show…..
Over 40 years ago my in-laws Russell and Roberta Criss organized the Stateline Spectacular Jackpot Show to offer an opportunity for local youth get their 4-H and beef livestock projects out and show before attending their local county fair. I am told Roberta hand crafted the prizes and awards. Russell put together the show ring, split classes and setup livestock judges. Although few local youth took advantage of the opportunity, my sister-in-law Renee was one of the first to attend and show at the SSJS. Years later my daughter showed at the SSJS and it was one of our favorites.
After years of Russell and Roberta organizing the show others stepped in to organize and put the show on where it grew into not only a youth beef show, but also swine, sheep, and goats that was very popular.
In February of this year the organizers decided to step away and put out a Facebook post informing everyone they were looking for someone to step in and organize the show or it would be canceled. I saw the post while in an airport on my way to the Maldives and I sent a message to the family to ask if they wanted to take the planning and organizing over for the Stateline Spectacular. After some discussion we decided we would send a message and take on the Show, but since it was late in the year we could only get a beef show organized in time.
Our family is passionate about agriculture and feel promoting youth in agriculture and livestock is very important for the future of agriculture. This show has a special place in our hearts and we wanted to keep it going for future generations of livestock kids.
We have worked hard in organizing the show for this year and it has been a learning curve, but I am very excited and hopeful this will be a great event. We have had great people and organizations offer support with sponsorships, donations, and help with setup.
As we are less than one week away from the Show, we hope your summer is starting off well and we hope to see you at the Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair in Tulelake, CA on June 20th.
