Carousel follow-up to my post from days ago I didn’t post sooner because I got some kinda body achy chills flu with hacking cough and pounding headache for 3 days and spent my time napping on and off through season 2 of Veronica Mars 🙃🤪

managed to get amazing shots which just proves it’s not the rain plan (or nearly 100 degree weather) requiring a tent that made your photos look dark and meh it was your photographer’s lack of technical skill at shooting in high contrast lighting lol. Angela you are a real PRO!

Our hydrangea-loving bride Claire wanted a soft lavender and blue focused palette with hints of blush. Had to tame my usual tendency for wispy wilder moments to fulfill her vision that she described in terms like “I love symmetry” so the product was a little more cultivated over untamed. I pride myself on being able to shift styles to make any client’s dreams a reality. I was not able to source much local as the timing of delphinium crops all over the Upstate did not cooperate so it was maybe the LEAST locally-sourced event I’ve done outside of winter timing BUT I did stick to my stubborn devotion to eschew foam. 😆

The 132 foot runner and all table decor was set in the same space as the ceremony and it was the most challenging flip our team has pulled off. Pro-tip don’t rent a refrigerated truck from Penske. They will still charge you over $200 for a metal box on wheels that didn’t do its job for more than 10 minutes and forced me to beg the restaurant manager to let us park flowers in the dining room during a busy lunch because I was terrified they’d melt outside waiting for 7 PM table setting. 😅

Things I hope to see more of in 2026- clients who skip bouquets for bridesmaids and keep personal flowers so simple. You are ALLOWED to do whatever you want. Wanna skip bouts for everyone except your groom/dad and officiant? 👍 Love having your girls pose with you in mismatched dresses they actually like wearing but keep the focal point YOU and your $$$ bouquet? 👍 Have moms who don’t want to wear a cuff corsage all night? 👍 I am seriously considering an invoice discount for clients who eschew the gorgeous and lovely but labor intensive pieces like wearables and giant wedding party flowers. You can save at least $1-2K in floral costs that could go to making your altar actually memorable in photographs (bigger installs usually mean bigger cost!) or decking out an area that most all guests will actually look at- like the BAR. Focus your investment in places strategically and save your floral team HOURS and 2 days of studio work so they can really pour their energies into the wow moments even more. The handful of one bout/one bouquet weddings I had this season gave me so much joy and a lovely studio work flow that hours and hours of fiddly prep for bouts and bouquets robs or costs me in employee hours.

Also be like and send all vendors a final prep week list of ALL event vendors and their properly spelled tags (see below) in a Honeybook brochure they can continue to access for months to come so it makes sure all vendors get their proper credit and we all help each other out. 🥰

September/rehearsal dinner magic let me have wayyyy too much fun with the details. Our theme was moody cozy harvest picnic but I wanted to make it a little punk rock and masculine and not more typical harvest abundance vibes.

Pops of black and lime starting freaky blooms textures on textures and lots of seasonal bits. Every September a frost grape vine gives me trusses of true black perfect for an inky palette and I love it so. I gathered some freshly fallen chestnuts from our driveway and clipped clusters of green cherry maters and baby sized eggplants out of Sam’s plants to trail out of bowls. I hope the guests could smell my very flowered out lemon basil that was the backbone of these table pieces, aromatherapy for the studio that week. (Everleaf lemon is my new must grow farmer pals. Didn’t look mildewed for months despite me letting it go to flower and sit for weeks. Infused into cream made my favorite ice cream ever too- just FYI🙃)

I adore when the rehearsal dinner allows for some bold design that may be a little toooo offbeat for the big day depending on your taste. The night before doesn’t just have to be a mini version of the nuptials night. Trust your vendor team to run with it/make it a little weird but classy and it may just be our favorite part of the whole design. Any opportunity to use quail eggs in styling sign me UP!

2025 was one of the hardest yet. Not gonna sugar coat hahah. Feels like I started a compost cycle of my whole 38 year personality as we discovered just how mold-impacted our home has been since day one (12+ years ago).

I’ve bread crumbed and pattern recognized the heck out of my symptoms over the decades. My brain fog and depression are not just quirks of who I am as a moody Cancer sun with some childhood trauma lol. It’s literally physiological symptoms from what mycotoxins do to your nerve/gut cells. All the years I have wasted money trying to sleep and digest food better were never going to get me to a place of true healing as our sick house kept me stuck. It wasn’t my fault that I kept having raging insomnia and arthritic pains because I couldn’t nail down a perfect wellness routine.

Pregnancy and the demands of nursing for 24 months kicked me clear off the autoimmune cliff I had perched at the edge of for honestly probably decades. I’ve grieved not really knowing what my “personality” is aside from the inflammation caused by mold as I now realize I have likely spent 2/3 of my lifetime in water damaged spaces and my nervous system might not even know how to not be in fight or flight.

The year of the snake shedding was truly an apt metaphor for the little dark night of the soul I have felt trapped in since springtime. Starting the year off with round two political hellscape followed by wildfires raging in Table Rock Park less than 3 miles from my house for the second time since 2016 merely 6 months post-trauma from Helene really set me up for dark mental patterns. Still need some somatic therapy work to process all that apocalypse in my own front yard energy PHEW lol.

I did grow more flowers this season for the first time in a few years and it reminded me of why I started this gig in the first place. Then but my POTS/MCAS symptoms left me reeling with intense dizzy/almost fainting spells in the heat so my intense drive to farm more fizzled by July but hey there’s always next year! The eternal farmer refrain. Still working on remediation but my body is feeling incrementally stronger with every chunk of deadly fungus removed from our home. (See slide 20)
