A major investment in rail infrastructure is coming to Torrington!
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced $20 million in grants through the Rail Freight Infrastructure Program, and the Naugatuck Railroad will receive $4,571,673 for improvements along the line, including several important upgrades here in Torrington.
The project will bring new, smoother railroad crossing surfaces to Vista Drive, Albert Street, Litchfield Street, and Water Street. New flashing crossing signals will also be installed at Albert Street and Litchfield Street to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Additional work includes upgrades to the railroad’s main track within Torrington, repairs to railroad bridges including the bridge at Summer Street, and other improvements that will help the railroad better serve its customers.
