Opening June 6 at VEFA Gallery:

Maïté Côté: Heart of Fur
The Altered Familiar

The innocence of childhood takes on a new skin.

In Heart of Fur, Maïté Côté transforms the teddy bear, one of our most familiar symbols of comfort, into a vessel for memory, protection, identity, and instinct. Through hyperrealism and surreal animal hybridization, each work asks what remains soft, what becomes guarded, and what part of us had to become wild.

Join us for the opening reception of VEFA Gallery’s newest exhibition.

Every monumental sculpture begins with a story, a site, and a vision.

Andy Scott’s Belle was commissioned for a new estate in Colorado Springs, on land once tied to the legacy of Ruth Banning, a formidable local figure whose Percheron horses were part of the region’s working history. From that point of origin, Scott developed not simply a sculpture, but a landmark rooted in place, memory, and cultural identity.

This is what defines Andy Scott’s commissioning process. Each work begins with deep consideration of location, history, movement, and meaning. In the case of Belle, the Percheron became the ideal subject: a proud draft horse with historic significance to the area, translated through Scott’s signature welded steel technique into a form that feels both powerful and alive. Every decision, from the forward motion of the body to the wind-swept mane and tail, was made in response to the environment the sculpture would inhabit.

The result is more than a sculpture. It is a site-specific monument, shaped by narrative, engineering, and artistry at the highest level.

For collectors, developers, institutions, and civic spaces, commissioning Andy Scott offers the opportunity to create a work that is entirely singular: a sculpture conceived in dialogue with its setting and designed to leave a lasting impression for generations.

Belle stands as a powerful example of how a commission begins with an idea and becomes a destination.

Andy Scott’s “Minotaur” (2014) is a bronze maquette for a project which became a monumental steel form for a private client in Mexico.  It is a personal favorite of the artist’s.  Modest in scale but powerful in presence, the small-scale bronze is the first articulation of a welded steel concept 10ft tall by 13 ft wide which inhabits the landscape at the heart of its own bespoke labyrinth

In Scott’s practice, maquettes are not simply secondary objects - they are a crucial foundation of commission-based sculpture.  Movement, proportion and mythical narrative are resolved before the work is taken to monumental form.

For collectors they offer a rare chance to acquire a work which is both complete in itself and intimately tied to the genesis of a larger sculptural vision.

Before steel is welded and a monument rises, there are the first sketches.

The “Monumental” catalogue isn’t just a record of Andy Scott’s solo exhibition at VEFA, it is the blueprint of his processes.  From initial sketches to the final sculpted artworks, the book illustrates the dialogues between studio, site, client and audience.

A celebratory milestone for the gallery and a tangible piece of the artist’s practice for your own collection, now available in the gallery shop.

We wanted to create a lasting document of Andy Scott’s time at VEFA, something that captured the gravitas and draughtsmanship of his steel monuments. This catalogue is our celebration of that journey.

For the equestrian scholars and art collectors who value the “how” as much as the “what”, this is your backstage pass to the artist’s studio.

Limited copies are now available via the shop tag below. Thank you for being part of this monumental chapter at VEFA.

Born out of Glasgow’s once formidable industrial landscape, Andy Scott’s sculptural practice transforms steel into something astonishingly alive. Raised in a city defined by shipbuilding, labor, and engineering, Scott inherited not only a material tradition, but a deep understanding of how strength, precision, and vision can converge in form. His signature works are built from countless hand-cut steel pieces, assembled into radiant figurative structures that read like monumental three-dimensional mosaics, each fragment contributing to a surface alive with movement, light, and emotion.

Monumental at VEFA Gallery offers a rare opportunity to experience this masterful language up close. These installation views reveal the extraordinary detail, discipline, and imagination behind Scott’s internationally celebrated practice, where industrial material is elevated into sculpture of profound elegance and presence. This is work that speaks to collectors who value technical brilliance, cultural significance, and timeless impact.

Monumental opens Saturday, February 21 at VEFA Gallery.

VEFA presents a solo exhibition by internationally renowned sculptor Andy Scott, .sculptures , known for landmark public works including The Kelpies, (Falkirk, Scotland). Monumental brings together maquettes, drawings, and a ten-foot steel horse head to show the full process from concept to fabrication: how Scott engineers form, scale, and surface through thousands of welded steel segments.

For collectors, Monumental is also a direct look at what commissioning at the highest level requires and makes possible: early studies, scale decisions, material tests, and the structural intelligence behind works designed for estates, institutions, and civic sites.
Collector appointments and commission consultations are now available.
