What's next for ECF?!
We have been in limbo, but we're not idle! Currently, we operate a food bank in Toronto and that's going to be it for awhile. We do not intend to open a brick and mortar location in Toronto in the future, lest it be a small building to host our food bank.
We recently recieved a contract offer to provide nutrition services to 6 homes and up to 60 Home Plus residents in the Wichita area! We have secured a kitchen in the Wichita area, where these meals will be prepared, beginning March 2026. We hope to source as much of our plates as possible from growers in WoCo and SEK. This won't always be possible, but we will always try. When we can't get something from our neighbors, we will find it as locally as possible. Residents will recieve meals similar to those created for our 60+Dine/$5 meals. Fresh will be the focus.
(A Home Plus is a medical facility housed on a residential property. These residential care homes house between 2-10 residents and provide meals, medical services, transportation, and more. This is an alternative to the classic nursing home and it's gaining popularity in Healthcare. We are thrilled for this opportunity!)
We will still do some catering, but we plan to only serve existing customers for the next year. Our catering schedule for 2026 is full and we are not accepting new bookings until Fall 2027.
Lastly, we are going to be HIRING. If you keep an active Food Handler's card in the Wichita area and you have an affinity for your elders, we want to talk to you! I will be conducting interviews in the month of December. Positions are part to full time with flexible self-scheduling and competitive pay. Homes are located all over Wichita.
