The cold-blooded countdown slithers on! We’re introducing some of the Reptile House residents that you can meet starting on Fri, May 22. 🐍

Reptile House Roll Call: Spitting cobra

🎯 Spitting cobras can spray venom several feet, aiming for the eyes to cause pain and temporary blindness.
⚡ Their neurotoxic venom affects the nervous system and quickly subdues prey.
🐍 When threatened, they lift the front of their body and spread the skin around their neck to appear larger.

🌳 Despite their large, heavy bodies, American alligators can climb over obstacles and even into trees.
❄️ During freezing conditions, they can enter a reptile version of dormancy called brumation and survive by keeping their snout above the ice to breathe.
🦷 Teeth are continuously replaced throughout life, helping maintain a powerful bite at all times.
