I’m a work in progress. Always.

I was checking my email this morning and one of the subject lines was about how God is shaping you as a wife.

I was like 🤔🤔

I had to sit and think about that.

I know that I picked up some habits out of survival and necessity that don’t go well with being a wife.

I grew up in survival mode and was once a single parent. For over 30 years, a lot of who I depended on for decision making and even putting together furniture came from me.

I had people to assist, but not many people to help me develop qualities that would help me in this journey as a wife.

There was a lot I had to unlearn. Like, it’s not my husband’s job to make me happy. I don’t want him stressing me out or adding to current stress, but my joy has to come from God.

And this journey isn’t for everyone. I didn’t think it was for me. I didn’t feel worthy of getting married because of past trauma. There is still work that needs to be done.

Do I need to watch how I react? Yes! Am I wrong about how I approach things? Sometimes. Am I perfect? Absolutely not.

My learnings and progress doesn’t mean that my spouse doesn’t have things to work on. He does. We all do. But we have to choose what we want in life. Pray on it.

Also, be careful that you don’t get wrapped up in the sudden increase in divorces from influencers. We don’t know what led to it because people show us scripted versions of their lives. Even when they do get divorced and experience freedom, we don’t see their struggles because of the transition from being married to being single.

There are definitely nuances. Like, abusers are terrible. Flee from them. Quickly!!!

But on this post, we’re talking about letting go of control of old ways that are hindering new growth.

We’re hosting a virtual event this Friday.

Time is valuable, so this book discussion will be focused and intentional as we celebrate Juneteenth.

Book: Take My Hand by by Dolen Perkins-Valdez

Prior reading isn’t required since we will be using book themes to form our discussion questions.

Think of it more as a mini group coaching session, not a typical book club discussion.

If you’ve read the book, join us. If you haven’t read the book, join us.

Some cat wisdom.

But seriously, this social media game is a bit overwhelming. Even ones that are supposed to be calmer are busy.

We all have a lot to offer and things to share, but you all!!!!

I miss life before social media. It won’t be long before I take another break.

I watched a sermon about how much time we spend on things other than working on ourselves or reading the word of God.

Before then, I thought about how much time I spent in bed depressed and deprived of energy.

Time I won’t get back. But it serves as a lesson that some progress or purposeful action is better than none. Even if that means resting to recharge and recover.

Oh, life. It’s such a mystery but we must be careful to avoid distractions or we will miss what’s in front of us that needs our attention.

I was looking through my camera and realized how much of myself I was missing. Yes, I had photos full of my family, cats, and even the park. But few of myself.

I then realized where it came from. My youth did a number on me, but I was also told that I can’t stay hidden anymore. I have to be visible.

That’s scary for me. Knowing what I endured growing up, it was safe to stay away from cameras and from scrutiny.

But I’m being called out. To show myself. To come out of the shadows of perfectionism.

It’s a journey for sure.

I spent years being told that success meant working harder, moving faster, and building a life that looked impressive on paper even when it didn’t fit who I actually was. As a millennial, I was sold the “hustle dream,” only to find myself exhausted, stressed, and struggling to find peace.

Then, life forced a pivot.

This space is my invitation to slow down, listen to the quiet, and unlearn the expectations that kept me stuck for so long. It’s a journey toward resting without guilt, listening to my body, and reclaiming a life defined by purpose and intention rather than survival.

Whether you are in a season of transition, looking to reset your nervous system, or simply tired of chasing a version of “success” that never served you, you are welcome here. We are in this together!

I’d be lying if I said I don’t get irritated when it seems like people who scheme, lie, and are just awful keep going on through life like nothing happened.

They continue to harm people or mislead folks.

It’s hard to watch. But I just have to keep my eyes focused on God and not their evils ways.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

June is a great month for those of us who’ve just survived the ebbs and flows of Spring.

We’re starting to find a groove and get outside more often.

That means people, festivals, construction… All of it!!

But even though our days and calendars can fill up with social events, remember to take time for yourself.

Literally stop and enjoy flowers. They’re reminders of the beauty of nature.

Find a new hobby.

Read 👏🏾 those 👏🏾 books 📚

Get outside. Whether it’s the beach, a park, or your neighborhood.

Whatever you do, remember to take care of yourself because you matter. ❤️❤️

For the past several months, I’ve had the pleasure of participating in a coaching certification program to enhance skills that I’ve already developed. Yes, I know some people go into coaching based on experience and it can be fruitful for them.

But I believe in creating valuable experiences for others. This program has helped me to look within while working to support others in coaching.

Another great perk is to get experience through practice - and I’d like to extend that offer to others who have been interested in working with a coach but haven’t yet taken the leap.

I’m here to help you take that leap. Let’s connect to learn how we can work together to create meaning and purpose.

Thanksgiving in Tucson. It looked unreal. I’m still in disbelief. We ended up in Mexico on a technicality for two seconds. It was a good trip.
