Changing Faces! A New Paradigm in Portable Sanitation:
It should come as no surprise that according to the U.S Small Business Administration women are in charge at more than 51% of the registered portable sanitation companies in America and own roughly 30% of those. More and more, women are stepping away from the role of managing such companies to CEO/Owner. Why shouldn’t they? Like many markets women offer a certain expertise in areas that are sometimes overlooked. They are typically very focused on a certain niche market.
Being a Woman in part is what helped Business Owner/CEO Darlene Whitehead of ASAP Portables, LLC in Toledo OH decide it was time to “up the ante” in the port a potty business. Her plan is to provide clean, private, quality portable restroom facilities that resemble home. “Like so many women I’ve always disliked using port a potties while attending events. They almost always lacked simple basic things that a Woman needs while on the go. Most women wants to feel comfortable enough to even step inside of a port a potty before determining whether or not they will use it. Our top priority is cleanliness. If a unit, upon first approach, looks and smells clean we will more than likely feel comfortable enough to use it. Everyone knows that a portable restroom at an outdoor event is required. The happier your event attendees are the more likely they will stay longer. This is crucial in increasing revenue for such events.
Whitehead started her portable restroom business in March 2018, with the help of her Husband Gerald Whitehead and their two Sons Dre and Ben. They rent everything from standard 70 gallon fresh water units to Handicap accessible ADA Compliant units with a 67” turn around width.
“We’re starting out small with just 6-10 brand new units and one 600 gallon two compartment vacuum truck. We plan to expand as business grows in NW Ohio”.
Whitehead is also Owner/CEO of ASAP Mow & Snow, LLC in Toledo a lawn care, snow removal & ice management company which has been in business nearly 6 years and boasts of such clients as The University of Toledo, Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority, Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority and Lucas County Land Bank. They are an MBE/EDGE Certified minority owned company and will also be working towards becoming a Woman Owned Business Enterprise or WBE as well.
