Marin Yacht Club Cruise Out
Friday – Sunday, August 22-24, 2025

Marin YC is just a 25-minute boat ride or a 15-minute drive from Corinthian YC, so there is no excuse not to attend this popular destination.

From The Crier: A wild bunch of Corinthians cruised out to Encinal Yacht Club last weekend, led by Trip Ames and Allyn & Kim Schafer. Nine boats crossed the Bay to EYC for the weekend (we started with 13, but some unexpected situations arose that prevented four from making the trip by boat, though some still joined by land). Friday afternoon was very casual with some lunching at EYC; then early evening, we had a relaxed happy hour on the Club grounds, followed by a rather rambunctious group of 17 at the nearby Chinese restaurant! Several of us then ventured to the beautiful EYC bar for a final final.

Saturday morning, a group enjoyed a lovely walk around Alameda Island, stopping for coffee and scones along the way. Others went for a paddle, a sail, or just relaxed on their boats. In the afternoon, a group ventured to the Forbidden Island for Tiki drinks. The evening brought “docktails”, a LONG game of Left, Right, Center (won by Tom Feo up against 24 other rollers!), and a lovely dinner for 30 at EYC.

On Labor Day, we will gather on the docks and deck for a potluck and float party. Bring your family and friends, but also something to contribute to the potluck lunch. The bar will be open for drinks only.

Please register on the C*C website, and we’ll send you a Google spreadsheet to fill out for the potluck so we can try to keep things balanced. This year, we will be judging the best entree, side, and dessert. We will have fun prizes for the winning contestants.

We are looking for kayakers and Stand Up Paddle Boarders, water bicyclers for a harbor race, and also Radio Controlled Boat Racers. Don’t have one yet? Order one on Amazon now. Have an Efoil? Bring it on down. Want to learn about them? See it demoed by our Port Captain, Dr. Jon Kahn. C*C group class is coming in September.

And of course, we will have the float parade contest. New category: Most loaded float!
If you can’t quite see yourself floating on the water, bring a folding lounge chair for the dock! You really won’t regret it! Register here: $9 per adult will cover the bartender and prizes.

We need volunteer judges and game/race wranglers. Contact Kate Lipman to help.

Commodore’s Cup Race 3: Round Red Rock
Wind steady at 20. Ebb flowing.

They started off at the Corinthian deck, heading down Raccoon Strait — some under spinnaker, others flying jibs alone. The fleet jibed northwest up the North Bay toward Red Rock, riding wind against tide.

Skippers chose their line around the rock. Most rounded to starboard. A few, like Toby on 53 Grandad, went port. Then came the long beat home — tacking up the Strait in heavy air, sails pinned and crews grinding.

Reverie’s 2025 Commodore’s Cup debut brought home First. .reverie
Jim Snow on Raccoon took Second.
Byron Reeves, solo on Katester, claimed Third, returning with rum, wine, and trophies straight off the Rock itself.

Commodore Cup Race Three is this Sunday, July 20!! First warning is at 12:30pm.

Course: Corinthian Yacht Club – Red Rock – Return
Honoring: The Corinthian tradition of pursuit racing and North Bay navigation
Route: Start near C*C (staggered pursuit start) ➝ Round Red Rock ➝ Finish near C*C
About: A mid-distance pursuit race (~15nm) that puts Corinthian sailors’ strategy and navigation skills to the test.
Boats will start staggered based on PHRF ratings, with the goal of a dramatic fleet convergence near the finish.
Perfect for Corinthian cruisers and racers alike, bringing together experienced sailors and those looking for a new challenge beyond the usual Central Bay courses.

And that’s a wrap! Women’s Sailing Seminar was held this past weekend. The women received classroom instruction in the morning, then took to the water where they all (safely) experienced the full force and variability of the bay! But you know what they say: if you can sail the SF Bay, you can sail anywhere!

Congratulations to all the participants! It was so nice to meet you all and I hope we keep seeing you around the club (hint: I recommend showing up to the docks with drinks or a shareable snack on summer Fridays for casual Friday night racing out to learn about race committee). Thank you for spending your weekend with us.

Also major thanks and kudos to all the incredible women who make this happen year after year—you all are amazing. Thank you. 🙏 And off course thank you to the fabulous women instructors, the skippers who lend their boats and time, and all the volunteers (greeters, goody bag stuffers, coordinators, community outreach) and staff that help make this weekend possible! And certainly thank you to our friends who taught on land and sea, and who provided some boats for on the water training.

Now cheers to seeing more women on the water!! 🥂🥂

The Corinthian Yacht Club is pleased to announce that another ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing class will be held at the Corinthian Yacht Club over two weekends in July: July 19–20 and July 26–27.  The cost to C*C members is $625 per person.

The class is limited to 4 students, and 2 spots are still available. If you or someone you know is interested in learning to sail or brushing up on the basics, this is a great opportunity to get on the water and gain an ASA 101 certification.

For details or to sign up, please email either Scott Bonder or Kevin Roesler.

Opening Day on the Bay Sunday morning ceremony. This is one of the best parts of opening weekend. We come together to celebrate a shared love of being on and around the water. And we celebrate and remember those that have passed with the rigging out of eight bells. It may be early, and it may be chilly, but the message, music, and camaraderie makes this one of the most meaningful parts of Opening Day.
