Hey guys! I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. Temps are on the cooler side today, but supposed to be hot af next week, so enjoy while you can. While visiting with my sisters last weekend, I received this ginormous orchid, so going to repot it now. I like using a super chunky mix with a teeny bit of worm casting enriched soil mixed into it. As far as the pot goes, anything with drainage will do. I like using terracotta, which allows the medium to dry faster, therefore reducing the risk of root rot. To water, soak the entire pot for about 30 minutes. This will allow the roots and medium to absorb enough moisture to get it through to its next watering. And my special helper here, Nico, wants to remind everyone to keep them ice cubes away from those delicate roots. Orchids are tropical plants, so exposing them to such low temperatures could damage the plant, stunt its growth, or even unalive it.

Today is the Thurmont Art & Wine stroll from 5-8pm! I’m really looking forward to seeing Main Street come alive this evening! I’ll be here with a wide variety of plants, including succulents, of course. Don’t forget to stop by Studio24E next door to check out the lineup of vendors they’ll have in store for you! You ever have a plant you keep finding a new spot for and therefore pretty consistently keep forgetting to water it until it’s on the absolute brink of death? 😅🙋‍♀️ It never hurts to try plant 101 CPR. About 2 months ago, there was no green, and the roots were dried up. No worries. I soaked the whole thing for a few hours then stuck it outside in a partly sunny spot. It sprouted a new leaf a few weeks ago. I believe this was one of my mini jewel orchids, but am not 💯 sure. Only time will tell.
