If you’ve been following along this Summer, you know I was struck by the muse of all things botanical, Earthy, healing, metamorphosis, and feminine. Truth is so many things have changed for me this year: I turned 50 and I’m in “THE CHANGE”, that every middle aged woman goes through. I stepped away from my floral design business of 15 years, and it’s been a massive shift. I’ve never related more to the caterpillar completely rearranging itself inside a chrysalis to become something else. I decided awhile ago that the last half of my life would be the most colorful, beautiful and free like a butterfly among the flowers and that’s what I meant to capture in these pieces. My Emergence series is a visual, symbolic story of evolving, healing, trusting your own timing and seeing that unfold in the natural world. There is a wisdom in Mother Nature that we share and I believe it surfaces later in life. I’ve been painting symbolic metamorphosis for months in my upcoming “Emergence” series and how amazing that I was able to witness it IRL! My annual Summer trip back to Minnesota, while visiting my bestie, she showed me this weird turquoise chrysalis hanging on a bench outside. Over the next day, it released the beautiful monarch that was quietly changing inside of it. It was a reminder to me to not stay in this chrysalis phase of painting. Sometimes we just have to get out of our own way and try something new even if we’re afraid and we think we’ll be crappy at it. We’re never too old to try something new. We for sure won’t be the best at first, but we will get better if we keep at it. Is there anything you’ve always wanted to try but you’re scared?
