Y’all, let’s talk about a real-life trailblazer today! ✨

On this day in 1936, the legendary Mary McLeod Bethune made history. She was appointed as the Director of Negro Affairs for the National Youth Administration, making her the very first Black woman to head a federal agency. Talk about leveling up! 📈

Mrs. Bethune didn’t just open doors; she built the whole house. She knew that our youth are the heartbeat of our legacy, and she dedicated her life to ensuring they had the tools to thrive. That’s the kind of energy we’re bringing to The Kinfolks House every single day. We’re out here building, growing, and honoring the giants whose shoulders we stand on.

Legacy isn’t just something we talk about: it’s something we do. 🌿🤍

Who is a historical figure that inspires you to keep building? Drop their name in the comments and let’s celebrate our excellence together!

Did y’all know that before the world looked to D.C., the fire was already burning in Detroit? 🔥

June 23, 1963, marks the legendary Detroit Walk to Freedom. Over 125,000 people filled the streets in a massive show of UNITY, making it the largest civil rights demonstration in U.S. history at the time. This was the moment Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered an early version of his "I Have a Dream" speech, right in the heart of the city.

Kinfolks family, this is the power of collective action! ✊🏾 Your girl is always reminded that when we pull up for each other, we don't just make noise: we create a movement. It wasn’t just a march; it was a blueprint for how we build legacy together.

We carry that same "boss-minded" intentionality here at The Kinfolks House. We aren’t just surviving; we are thriving and building for the generations to come. Let’s keep that fire lit!

How are you showing up for your community today? Let’s talk about it in the comments. ✨

Happy Birthday to the Queen of Dance and Culture! ✨

Today, the Kinfolks family is celebrating the life and legacy of the one and only Katherine Dunham. Born on June 22nd, she wasn't just a dancer; she was a visionary who blended art, anthropology, and activism to change the world.

Known as the 'Matriarch of Black Dance,' your girl Katherine founded the first self-supported Black modern dance troupe in America. She didn't just perform; she researched our roots, bringing the rhythms of the Caribbean and Africa to the big stage. Her soulful and nurturing approach reminded us that dance is more than movement: it’s how we connect back to our ancestors and tell our story.

At The Kinfolks House, we believe in movement as medicine and legacy in action. Today, we honor the woman who showed us how to move with purpose and grace. 🌿🤎

Let’s keep that movement going! Tag a dancer or a creative who is building their own legacy in the comments. 💃🏾✨

Kinfolks family, we’re honoring a true blueprint for excellence today! ✨

Born into slavery and rising to become the first African American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, Joseph Hayne Rainey was the definition of "boss-minded" before it was a trend. ✊🏾

Today we celebrate his birthday and the incredible legacy he built through five terms in Congress. He didn't just break the door down; he held it open for every leader who came after him. At The Kinfolks House, we’re all about that legacy in action. We stand on the shoulders of giants like Joseph Hayne Rainey as we continue to build, grow, and empower our community.

Your girl is always inspired by those who turn their "firsts" into a movement. Joseph showed us that no matter where you start, where you're going is limited only by your courage and vision.

How are you building your legacy today? Let’s keep that same energy and keep leveling up together! Drop a 🏛️ in the comments if you’re standing on business and building for the future.

The Greatest didn't just fight in the ring, Kinfolks family: he fought for our dignity. 🥊✨

On this day in 1967, Muhammad Ali was convicted for refusing to be inducted into the U.S. Army. But let’s be clear: he wasn't just avoiding a draft. He was taking a principled stand against systemic racism and standing firm in his truth, even when the world tried to break him. ✊🏾

Think about that level of sacrifice. He gave up 3.5 years of his prime: the very peak of his career: because he refused to compromise his values. That is LEGACY in action. It’s not just about the trophies; it’s about the weight of your word and the courage to stand alone if you have to.

As we continue to build and grow at The Kinfolks House, we carry that same spirit. Sometimes the most powerful move you can make is simply refusing to bow down. Standing on business isn't always easy, but staying true to your soul is always worth it. 🛡️🔥

What are the principles you refuse to compromise on? Drop a "💯" in the comments if you’re standing tall today!

Today is more than a holiday: it’s a Day of Jubilee! ✨

Let’s take it back to June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas. Can you imagine the shift in the atmosphere? General Gordon Granger arrived to deliver General Order No. 3, finally announcing that 250,000 enslaved people were free.

Now y’all know the truth: it was two and a half years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation. But the resilience of our ancestors didn’t let that delay break their spirit. They didn’t just wait for freedom; they built it. By 1872, the community pooled their resources to buy Emancipation Park in Houston just to have a place to celebrate together. That is legacy in action at its finest! ✊🏾🌿

Your girl is reflecting on that power today. At The Kinfolks House, we carry that same torch: building, ownership, and celebrating our unity every single day. We aren't just surviving; we are thriving together. We are the movement our ancestors dreamed of.

How are you honoring your legacy today, Kinfolks family? Drop a ✨ in the comments if you’re standing tall in your freedom!

Knowledge is power, but the hands that share it deserve their flowers: and their full pay. 🌿✨

Today we’re honoring a major milestone in our journey toward EQUAL VALUE. On June 18, 1940, the federal court ruled in Alston v. School Board of the City of Norfolk that Black and White teachers must be paid equal salaries.

This wasn’t just a win for the classroom; it was a win for the movement. Melvin Alston, alongside the NAACP and the legendary Thurgood Marshall, stood up and said "enough" to systemic inequality. They knew that building a legacy starts with recognizing the worth of our people.

At The Kinfolks House, we move with that same spirit of unity and action. We aren’t just surviving; we are thriving because of the foundations laid by change-makers like Melvin Alston. We’re here to keep building, keep healing, and keep growing together.

Let’s keep that same energy, Kinfolks. How are you honoring the legacy of those who fought for you today?

Drop a ✊🏾 in the comments if you’re proud of our history and the legacy we're building today!
