There’s a reason not everyone grows dahlias.
They want to be treated like queens.
And by George, they are.
Storm watch, wind shelter, hand-staked, hand-pinched, hand-harvested before dawn so a single petal doesn’t bruise.
Disbudding, pinching, amending, conditioning, cooling and storing are part of the gig.
One unlucky afternoon and a whole row is gone. One disease from a new tuber, everything gone.
One unexpected freeze, gone.
Weeks of rain and your healthy investment of time, energy, money and love - kaput.
A single dahlia tuber that produces one plant can average from $5-45.
The most coveted and scarce, I’ve seen auction for more than $400. 🤯 (We’ll save the winter/tuber shenanigans topic for another time.)
Alas, I can’t help myself.
They deserve every bit of it.
If you have ever questioned the pricing behind Dahlias, I sincerely invite you to come enjoy a few hours making these blooms happen. 📞 💕
Dahlias are an incredible labor of love.
And they show off why so well.
