Flowers are often given as gifts, but their true gift is often overlooked.
They’re a reminder that slow, beautiful things still exist.
Even in the crazy world we live in that’s changing every day.

🫡 Permission Granted: You are allowed to stop and enjoy them.

Give yourself the moment. You’ve earned it. 🌸

Ever work side by side with someone, they become your work bestie, and then life calls them elsewhere?

It’s the worst. And can be truly heartbreaking.

I got a request for a purple arrangement for this very reason, then received some photos…. and I love this message. 🤣

There’s a reason not everyone grows dahlias.
They want to be treated like queens.

And by George, they are.

Storm watch, wind shelter, hand-staked, hand-pinched, hand-harvested before dawn so a single petal doesn’t bruise.
Disbudding, pinching, amending, conditioning, cooling and storing are part of the gig.

One unlucky afternoon and a whole row is gone. One disease from a new tuber, everything gone.
One unexpected freeze, gone.
Weeks of rain and your healthy investment of time, energy, money and love - kaput.
A single dahlia tuber that produces one plant can average from $5-45.
The most coveted and scarce, I’ve seen auction for more than $400. 🤯 (We’ll save the winter/tuber shenanigans topic for another time.)

Alas, I can’t help myself.
They deserve every bit of it.

If you have ever questioned the pricing behind Dahlias, I sincerely invite you to come enjoy a few hours making these blooms happen. 📞 💕

Dahlias are an incredible labor of love.
And they show off why so well.

Ever wonder why you never see dahlias like these at the grocery store?

Dahlias are too delicate to survive the days-long journey most flowers take before they hit a shelf, so they get left out of the trade entirely.

That’s why 80% of US flowers are imported and carry with them a cocktail of chemicals we don’t allow on imported food- yet those flowers are handled and loved by many.

Store flowers are flown in thousands of miles from Colombia, Ecuador, and the Netherlands, which is seasonally necessary of course.

Most local farms won’t be able to give you flowers in the dead of winter. But the truth is, 74% of people have no idea where their flowers came from.

This is not an attack on imported flowers, but more of an awareness campaign, much like the concept of farm to table in the food you eat.

Every bloom here traveled about 22 muddy steps. Cut daily here at The May Garden in Taylorsville, GA — no flights, no middlemen, no secrecy - and most importantly no chemicals that you wouldn’t want in your home.

This is what “grown not flown” actually looks like.

Did you know where your flowers come from? 👇

From a Gold Star family:
Memorial Day isn't Veterans Day.

Today isn't about thanking those who served. Or about hot dogs and bbqs.
It's about the ones who never got to grow old, or watch their children grow.

Remember their names. Tell their stories. Give them the honor they deserve for their sacrifice.

Today belongs to them.

For SSGT Jeremiah Puma - ours, and missed every single day.

It was the last day of second grade for two of my favorite girls. 💕

A shout out to the very talented Shelbi Gulledge Photog, and the gratitude I have for a very special village we’ve created right here in our small town of Taylorsville.

If you need pictures that capture your family with love, get in touch with her.
There could be some added florals, if needed. 😎🌸
