Originally hailing from Boston, then making their embryonic bones in the Big Apple, pioneering psychedelic funk cosmonauts LETTUCE consider the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park a veritable home away from home. For the better part of the past two decades, these renowned ragers have returned annually to lace this sacred space with their patented crunkalogic potions, from jazz-funk to trip-hop and kaleidoscopic galaxies between.
These storied transmissions have resulted in a number of iconic throwdowns in the annals of Lettucefunk history. Beginning in 2008, for eight wild n’ crazy consecutive years LETTUCE was among the beloved resident host bands at the famed Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival, a certified funk Olympics. Across an oft-frigid long weekend every mid-November, the group ascended their throne on the celebrated Amphitheater Stage and reliably uncorked the hottest new joints in the proverbial quiver. As per SOSMP tradition, various LETT lineups and iterations could be found sharing their stage with the likes of Derek Trucks & the late Kofi Burbridge, The JB Horns, George Porter Jr., members of Dumpstaphunk, Louis Cato, Jennifer Hartswick, the late James Casey, Maurice “MoBetta” Brown and dozens more, LETTUCE often chose the Amp stage to embark on some of the most ambitious sonic adventuring the group as delivered.
In addition to holding down Bear Creek for the duration of its iconic run, LETTUCE has blessed Suwannee Hulaween nearly every October since, as well as legendary nights at Purple Hatters Ball, Suwannee Rising, and Resonate Suwannee. Despite the fact that the members of LETTUCE are not from the Southeast, the sextet has deep roots with the rabid funk fans of this region; as such their presence at the inaugural AMP JAMS March 6-8 will be nothing short of a family affair.
