Five years.
That’s a little hard for me to wrap my head around.
Five years ago today, I stepped out on my own and started building a business that belonged solely to me.
There wasn’t a grand plan. There damn sure wasn’t a safety net. There was just what I knew how to do, what I was willing to learn, and a whole lot of faith that the Lord would make a way if I was willing to do the work.
And He did.
But I learned pretty quickly that sometimes the way He makes is straight through the hard stuff.
I’ve cooked when I was tired. Said yes when I was scared. Learned to say no when I needed to. Undercharged, overworked, screwed things up, figured things out, hauled more groceries than any one woman ought to, washed mountains of dishes, and spent more nights than I can count wondering what in the hell I had gotten myself into.
And then the phone would ring again.
Another dinner.
Another wedding.
Another class.
Another family trusting me with a table that mattered to them.
And five years later, here we are.
There are people who have hired me once, people who have hired me over and over again, and people who have told my name to somebody else when I wasn’t even in the room.
That last one will never be lost on me.
Because this business wasn’t built by followers, algorithms, or some perfectly mapped-out plan.
It was built by people trusting me.
So today, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you for inviting me into your homes. Thank you for letting me cook for your families. Thank you for trusting me with birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, celebrations, hard days, good days, and ordinary Tuesday nights that somebody decided deserved a good supper.
Thank you for every referral, every kind word, every repeat booking, every shared post, and every time somebody said, “Call Lauren.”
You helped me build a life with my own two hands.
I’m proud of that.
But more than anything, I’m grateful for it.
The Lord has been mighty good to me. Not by making the road easy, but by giving me enough for the next step every time I needed to take one.
And maybe that’s what five years means to me more than anything.
I know now that I can build something from the ground up.I know I can stand on my own two feet.
I know that hard seasons don’t get the final word.
And I know that when I couldn’t see ten steps ahead, the Lord was faithful enough to light the one right in front of me.
Five years ago, I had no idea if this thing would work.
Today, I don’t have to wonder anymore.
It worked because I worked.
It grew because y’all trusted me.
And I’m still here because God never once stopped providing a way forward.
So thank you for five years of putting food on your tables — and, in doing so, helping me put food on mine.
That’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
When I am heading home after every single opportunity I always smile and tell my sweet Ida in the sky that we did it again.
Five years down.
And if the Lord gives me five more, I’ll meet them the same way I met these:
Apron on.
Head down.
Heart grateful.
And ready to work.
All my love 🤍
Lauren
