Three fun facts about Sphinx Virtuosi ahead of their October 24 performance!

1. Sphinx Virtuosi is a self-conducted chamber orchestra, meaning the musicians lead the ensemble themselves.

2. The ensemble is made up of 18 string players, each sought-after soloists, chamber musicians, and faculty members at top institutions, including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, Seattle, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras.

3. They’ve shared the stage with legendary artists including Terence Blanchard, Denyce Graves, and Sweet Honey in the Rock, as well as cultural icons like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Their impressive résumé also includes high-profile appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the Grammy Awards broadcast.

The Anna H. Wang Concert Series honors the life and legacy of Anna H. Wang. From being orphaned in China at age five to becoming a nurse, leader and mother, she embodied hope and the strength of the human spirit. Her love for music inspired young people to pursue their talents toward a higher purpose — a vision that continues to guide our mission of using music as a force for good, healing, and aspiration
