Well the American Royal World Series of Barbecue is in the books! This one was special for multiple reasons. We had some great neighbors with SuperSwine BBQ being right next door, the dessert was 🔥🔥! This was our fifth year competing there so to get the 5 year banner was a pretty cool thing for us. One of our dear friends and mentors Donny Teel was inducted into the Hall of Fame Saturday night. Donny has meant so much to so many people and we are thrilled we get to call him and Cyndi friends! Couldn’t think of a more deserving person for the hall of fame! This was also our first AR canopy cook. No trailer just us and nature😂. Once the weather moved it it became difficult for everyone. Saturday was the invitational (157 grand champions from all over the world) we thought we had a really good cook and finished really well in 3 of the 4 meats….pork getting a rough score kept us out of the top 15 but we still managed a 35th overall finish in an absolutely stacked field. Sunday the weather turned even worse and it was a real challenge and I think it got in my head. We didn’t have a good cook, and the scores reflected that. We did get a solid 177.7 pork score on Sunday (if only 24 hours before 😂) . We loaded up and left after turn ins choosing to listen to awards in the truck with a heater! The Royal is always the greatest contest and spectacle in BBQ and we enjoyed being there! Congrats to everyone who heard their name!! A huge thank you to my father in law Jeep Scott for helping all weekend, couldn’t ask for better help (should have let him cook the turkey this year 😂)

With that brings this year to an end. We aren’t sure what next season looks like for us or if we will even compete. Tons of things going on in our near future. We had a blast and we will see what the future holds!

Had a great time this weekend at Poteau Balloonfest! It was a great contest, Scott and his crew did a great job making sure all the teams had everything they needed. Our weekend was quite the adventure but all in all we faired pretty well. We did have a stressful moment when right after pork turn in our canopy decided to flip over and take all our tables and everything with it. Huge thanks to BrewsCue Competition BBQ and Catering for helping us in the pouring rain!! We had to scramble to get brisket processed in just twelve minutes in a downpour but we managed to get it turned in with just about 30 seconds left (plenty of time 😂). So after all that here is how we ended up.

Chicken- 2nd Place
Ribs- 8th Place
Pork- 5th Place Compart Family Farms
Brisket- 8th place
Overall- 7th place with 695
Congrats to Kermit's Ex BBQ on the GC and to Doomsday BBQ on RGC!

It was awesome having Harper help me again, she keeps me on my toes! We will be back at in three weeks for the Royal World Series of BBQ at Kansas Speedway!

We know we are a little late with the traditional American Royal map location pictures but we are super excited for our new spot this year ( #387). We have some great neighbors even if some of them are from Arkansas 😉😂. Just kidding of course, this looks like the best spot we have had yet!. Cant wait until November, it’s not to early to start wishing for some decent weather either!!

Had a fun weekend in Miami Oklahoma for the Smokin on the Route BBQ contest. We have attended this event every year and they do a great job! I had some extra help this weekend as Harper came along and it was great having her even though she spent most of the time playing with her friends 😂. As for the cook we thought it was pretty good and liked everything but pork.

4th Place Pork-
8th Place Brisket-

Congrats to Take It Easy BBQ on the GC and Smoked & Furious BBQ Team on RGC! Also a big congrats to CEO BBQ Cheryl N Eddie Oates on a first place rib!

This was a bittersweet contest for us as we wrap up our competition BBQ journey with this being our last contest in Oklahoma….its been so much fun for the past seven years and we have one more left at the Royal World Series of BBQ in November !

Had a great weekend at the Cherokee Strip Cook Off in Ponca City this is always one of our favorite contests. The weather threw us a curveball this morning but we powered through and turned in 4 decent entries. We were fortunate enough to find some good tables
Chicken- 1st Place with a 180!
Ribs- 5th Place
Pork- 1st place with a 180!
Brisket- 19th place….ouch this one is on me
Overall 3rd Place with a 704!

We ventured out to Moore, Oklahoma for BBQ & Music Festival. They really go above and beyond to make sure the teams are well taken care of. We had a pretty smooth cook and liked everything except pork….the judges only liked the brisket and we walked with a sixth place call. We are struggling to figure out what the judges want so far but this was just our second KCBS this year so we will keep trying!

Took a little trip to Columbia Missouri this weekend for the second annual , Blues & BBQ contest. It was a fun event and our first KCBS contest not only of the year but without a trailer. Things went really smooth and even borrowed Wyatt’s drum for the brisket. We turned in 4 good boxes and the judges hated two and liked two…we are happy just to hear our name.

So looks like we will be headed back to Kansas City after all. This time in November! This will be our fifth time at the Royal and fourth time cooking both the open and the invitational! Two shots at a world title, what a great way to wrap up our competition BBQ career……can’t wait till November!

We had a great time this weekend in Larned Kansas at their Rib Cook Off Association event! Friday night was highlighted by Harper doing her first ever kids Q. The category was grilled cheese and this was her recipe , I couldn’t be more proud of how she handled everything. I was so nervous for her at awards but she was calm and collected, until they called her for first place!!! So awesome to see her that happy!
Saturday, we turned in two sets of ribs of chicken wings and we ended up
2nd place- Rib a
6th Place- Rib b
4th Place- wings

All in all it was a great weekend filled with some great moments…..until the next one!

Home and unloaded from another Rib Cook Off Association event in Kansas City. This was a special one as it was by invitation only and there was some amazing teams, hall of famers, world champions you name it. The coolest part was it was hosted by Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway! Really cool event and we were thrilled just to be a part of it! This one was simple just one rib turn in but we managed to find some kind judges and landed a third place rib in a star studded field! Congrats to everyone who heard their number called! Until the next one…..
