For Ellen Sorber ’20 and Ally Vail ’25, Making Music Accessible Truly Matters.

Both grew up surrounded by a cacophony of sounds, tunes and chords. Sorber was trained in voice and piano, Vail in dance. Music served as a source of inspiration for them throughout their childhoods. It is little wonder that the young alumnae are passionate about sharing their love of music with others.

That is precisely what they do through their work for the The Skaneateles Festival, a monthlong event whose mission is to bring the world’s best music to the Finger Lakes region.

Sorber has served as the festival’s manager of marketing and communications and is now transitioning into a new role as its marketing consultant, while Vail serves as its digital marketing and social media coordinator.

Sorber and Vail say Le Moyne, where their liberal arts courses exposed them to a wide array of ideas and perspectives, left them well prepared for the work of ensuring that various genres of music are accessible to as broad an audience as possible.

Read more about their story below.

Communications alumnae Ellen Sorber ’20 and Ally Vail ’25 are expanding access to live music through their work with the Skaneateles Festival.

Ryan McGoldrick, a senior environmental science systems major with a minor in applied statistics, is the recipient of this year's James C. Finlay, S.J. Award for Outstanding Integral Honors Thesis. His thesis "Evidence for Arthropodivorous Bird Population Changes with Increasing Temperatures at La Selva Biological Station 1997 - 2024" was defended on April 15.

In addition to his environmental studies, Ryan is a musician who plays trumpet in our jazz ensemble, where he also serves as president. This past year, he and four other students formed their own jazz group, performing around campus at open houses, club fairs, and firehouse events.

Ryan is pictured above in Costa Rica with Dr. Jason Luscier, who mentored his project. This trip, a part of the Ecosystems of Costa Rica course, served as inspiration for his thesis. Ryan is working on getting his research published, with future plans to attend graduate school and ultimately earn a Ph.D. in ecology.

Congratulations Ryan, and thank you for being part of our arts community on campus!
