We headed up to Absarokee, MT this weekend and had a blast. It was a great comp in an amazing little town. The rain night Friday didn’t dampen our spirits and we did the best we could. Thankfully we were able to bring a little hardware home. We ended up walking in chicken and pork again. Now if I could just remember what I did right the last time I received a brisket call and put it all together.

Thank you for your tutelage on fine tuning my chicken. We had a blast cooking next to you.

All set up here in Absarokee, MT. What an exciting place to cook. We were fortunate that one of the townsfolk opened their back yard to us. We are blessed to be able to participate in this hobby.

We made it home from the 20th annual Best Dam BBQ Challenge put on by the . This is our third time cooking this comp and it gets better every year.

🐖 1st; & on
🐄 25th. I dropped the ball on this one and think the judges got it right. My normal brisket would have put me in the running for GC but this ball bounces so watch out.

Overall 10th

Our plans to travel to Grand Junction CO were derailed when the comp was cancelled at the last minute. Thankfully our friend was hosting a fundraising event right down the road that had a 4-meat ancillary comparable to . We ran our plan and ended up with a 5th in chicken and 2nd in pork which was good enough to earn a Golden Ticket.

It was even more special to get to hang out with our old friend Roger Donohoe.

The competition was 20 minutes from home but it has taken me more than two days to post. We competed last weekend at the in Ogden put on by Jesse Johnson of . Thanks to for sponsoring the hot dog contest and thanks to for the awesome Chainmail Brush.

It was awesome to cook with friends again but I am still trying to dial it in. Thankfully we didn’t go home empty handed and pulled out a 4th place brisket in the 11th hour scramble before boxing.

Congrats to for securing an invite to the with GC and on RGC.

Thanks also to who was kind enough to give me some pointers on chicken.

Let’s see if I can put it to use at the Best Dam Bbq Challenge in Boulder City.
