Watching this high school percussion ensemble make magic last night brought tears to my eyes. Complex rhythms, synchronized movement, artistry and more. The kids are gonna be okay, folks. 😍😭

I love seeing the Spirit move to unite people across boundaries through learning about the power of music! had the privilege of working in the L.A. area this past weekend-- leading a conference on Saturday at a multigenerational Indian church, and then speaking at a Chinese church on Sunday. And it was fantastic to get some time with old friends, too!

I could post a hundred pics of the dedicated musicians I met with Africa Sings. They compose songs for peace and perform them all over, but even more than that, they are committed to helping new musicians grow. They sponsored a conference of churches in a village in Northern Benin during our trip. Ibrahim (center) had spent weeks on the road teaching the choirs songs and instruments prior to the gathering. When they can together, Benjamin led a workshop on how to make a traditional string instrument. Catarine taught the choirs (I got to help). And the whole team poured into the many musicians attending. The solo competition was long and hot and beautiful-- I cried as the winner knelt with her prize guitar, humbly presenting it back to God and thanking the congregation. I'll be chewing on their dedication for years to come...

Pause before inserting your next emoji! While it's always risky to communicate with just one pathway (i.e. visual), it's much worse when we don't consider the culture of our audience. The "slightly smiling emoji" could be a terrible communication choice, because its meaning has evolved differently in different contexts, often divided by age. Some understand this symbol as "happy," while others see it as "fake happy," "smug," or even "threatening." What do YOU think 🙂means?
