In essence - Tennessee is just being a jerk, per usual. They are not banning same-s*x marriage (because the Supreme Court says they can’t!), they’re just finding yet another way to discriminate against gay and same s*x couples.

HB 1473 states that "private citizens and organizations are not bound by the Fourteenth Amendment or the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges to recognize a marriage between individuals of the same s*x; prohibits the board of professional responsibility from disciplining or sanctioning an attorney for declining to officiate a marriage between two persons of the same s*x."

A bill that says same-s*x marriages do not have to be recognized in the state of Tennessee was passed by the Tennessee House of Representatives on Thursday.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Alan and Bobbi Proffitt!!
This past weekend I had the joy of joining these two lovely humans in marriage. We know Bobbi because our kids (Elliot and Kaylie) were best friends in Aiken, but it was just a fun coincidence that she hired me for the ceremony- she found me on weddingwire and I don’t think either of us made that connection until we actually got on the phone.
Bobbi and Alan are opposites in a lot of ways. He’s a bit of the strong, silent type; Bobbi is a therapist she’ll tell you exactly what she’s feeling. But just like the old adage, these opposites attract - they give one another perfect balance.
Surrounded by their kids and grandkids and family and friends, we performed a handfasting and they promised “til death do us part”.

Something I don’t generally do is stick around for the reception, but I did this time and I’m so glad I did. I had a fantastic time laughing and eating and dancing with their lovely guests. Bobbi planned and coordinated every detail of the wedding, from decor (purple and gold and skulls to honor the “til death do us part” theme!) to food and dessert (she runs a bakery so the sweets were on point🤌🤌🤌) to the music, timeline, and shoes 👟

Stephanie and Jay got married yesterday, surrounded by their EIGHT combined kids, family and friends at their beautiful home in Sumter, SC. It was an absolutely MAGICAL day and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it! 🪄 ✨
