PSA: Be nice to the teen behind the counter.

You know, the one who just split your one scoop into 3 different flavors just because they want to take care of you, made your oat milk latte with exactly three pumps of vanilla and a splash of caramel, bagged your to-go food like a Tetris master, or is wiping down the table that looks like the most epic food fight just took place at.

They might be 16. Maybe 17. Possibly running on 3 hours of sleep and a granola bar. It could be their first job—or their second week—and they’re still figuring out how to clock in without accidentally shutting down the Door Dash orders.

They’re learning how to show up on time, stay calm when someone yells about a missing straw, and smile even when someone says “back in my day…” (again).

They’re on their feet all day, decoding customer moods, dodging passive-aggressive bless your heart patrons, and trying not to cry in the walk-in freezer.

So go easy on them.

Because:

You never know whose kid that is.
You never know how hard it was just to show up today.
And let’s be honest—at 16, most of us were still burning toast and crying over geometry.

They’re doing great. Better than we give them credit for. And probably better than we were at their age or definitely better than the person writing this post was at 16. 💜💚💜💚
