Acres burned: 572,082.5 acres
Containment: 0%
Origin: Downed power pole and line in gusty winds near Angora on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Counties impacted: Morrill, Garden, Arthur, Keith and Grant
Fire weather outlook: Fire weather watch for Morrill County Wednesday - Friday.
Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 44. Wind chill values between zero and 10. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Monday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind around 5 mph becoming south southeast in the evening.
Notes: Largest fire in Nebraska history. Ranks among the top 30 all-time in United States history.
* We're going to adjust the all-time ranks in the U.S. due to the variety of data that is out there. A lot depends on how fires are counted. We will choose to wait for official word. We apologize for that. Still...a fire that's six times the size of Omaha.
