One of my favorite ways to make senior photos feel modern and fun?
Colorful locations and bold outfits.

For my nephew Devon’s senior session, we explored different spots around Sacramento. I love using Sacramento for sessions because it’s such a great central location — you get urban vibes, pops of color, and a huge variety of looks all in one area.

The vibrant backdrop paired with his purple shirt created such an energetic, eye-catching look that feels confident and full of personality.

Don’t be afraid of color. When it’s done right, it makes your photos feel joyful, unique, and totally you.

If you’re a Northern California senior and want something that feels fresh and not cookie-cutter, save this for inspiration. Sacramento is one of my favorite places to create senior sessions.

Not sure what to bring to your senior session to really show who you are?
Take a little inspiration from Maili’s session.

She brought a few simple things that represent her favorite hobbies — photography and reading — and they made her images feel so her.

You don’t have to play a sport or an instrument to showcase your personality. Sometimes it just takes a little creativity to think about the things that matter most to you and make you smile.

This is one of the reasons I love photographing high school seniors so much. Every single one of you is different. There’s no cookie-cutter here — your story, your style, your interests… they all deserve to be seen.

I’ve been photographing Maili since she was a little girl, back when her biggest love was unicorns. We’ve photographed her with unicorns, at the beach, and even all the way up in Lake Tahoe. Watching her grow into the talented, beautiful young woman she is today has been such a gift.

Maili, I can’t wait to see where life takes you next 🤍

One of the best parts about living in California is that we can shoot all year long. And with locations like UOP, you don’t have to sacrifice scenery just because it’s winter — it looks amazing in every season.

And busy schedules? No problem.

We were originally supposed to do Dax’s session in November, but rain had other plans. Between weather and his packed baseball schedule, it took nearly two months to reschedule. The only window we could find? A morning before school because his classes started late.

And boys… I know senior photos may not be at the top of your list 😄
But guess what? We captured all of these images — with outfit changes — in just 37 minutes.

If you have a senior boy who still needs his photos, let’s make it happen.
We’ll plan the perfect session — even if “perfect” means quick, easy, and mom still gets the images she’s been dreaming of.

It was January.
Extra foggy.
One of those Central Valley winter days.

But for Owen’s senior session, it didn’t matter one bit.

We photographed his senior boy session in Sacramento, one of my absolute favorite cities for urban senior photos — and every image you see here was taken within two city blocks. That’s exactly why I love urban sessions. There is variety around every corner: color, texture, architecture, light.

It was so foggy that we literally missed our freeway exit on the way home… but you’d never know it from these photos.

Let this be your sign to consider an urban senior session (or even just part of your session) in one of our amazing nearby cities.
Stockton, Lodi, Modesto, and Sacramento all have incredible locations for senior photos that feel modern, bold, and completely unique.
