Meet the people behind the shears.

Shearing is more than just a haircut. It is a true farm skill, and one that takes years to master.

Each spring, our team gathers for harvest day.

Our crew includes Nate the Shear Master, Roy or Glen the Holding Hero, Peg the Fiber Queen, Brent the Farm Guide, Greg & Cheryl the Parking Pros, and Amy the Barn Boss. Together, we work efficiently and carefully to harvest the fleece while keeping every alpaca and llama comfortable throughout the process.

An experienced team allows the entire herd to be shorn smoothly while keeping the day calm, organized, and well managed for the animals.

It is one of the most important days on the farm, and there is nothing quite like experiencing it in person at Shearing Fest with us.

Why do alpacas and llamas need a haircut every spring?

Unlike many animals, alpacas and llamas don’t naturally shed their fleece. Their fiber grows all year long, so without shearing they can become hot and uncomfortable as the weather warms up.

Think of it as trading a heavy winter coat for a fresh summer haircut. ✂️

The fleece we remove is also one of nature’s most remarkable fibers, soft, warm, and naturally hypoallergenic.

👇 Have you ever seen an alpaca or llama being shorn before?

Since 1976

WoodsEdge Farm turns 50 this year.

That didn’t happen by accident.

Some stories are worth telling slowly.
You’ll see more as the year goes on.

If 2025 had a theme here at WoodsEdge, it might be realizing halfway through the day we skipped lunch again.

This was a year of hard work and quiet progress. The kind you only notice when you pause long enough to look back. The farm did what farms do best. It asked for consistency and rewarded it in small, meaningful ways.

The llamas and alpacas kept us grounded and quietly entertained. They reminded us that good care is not flashy. It is daily. It is patient. And it matters.

The land showed us both generosity and challenge. Some plans moved faster than expected. Others taught us to slow down and listen. That is farming. You plan carefully, then adapt gracefully.

2025 was also about laying foundations. Thinking long term. Making choices that future years will quietly benefit from. Not everything shows up in photos, but it shows up in how the farm functions and how it feels to work here.

The year closes with sore muscles, steady gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the work behind us. Here’s to another year of growing things slowly, caring deeply, and letting the farm lead the way.
