Did you y'all hear about my new art book? Sole Vessel Vol. 1 is available to order! It contains 126 sneaker masks across 262 full color pages.

Production of new art book should be done Tuesday!

If I'm reaaaalll lucky I'll have the books in hand by the end of the week but with the holiday coming up, I'm betting I'll have 'em by the 7th.

From there I'll start signing and personalizing copies for those who ordered the upgrades. Unsigned copies are still available for purchase.

Our ancestors have used masks to breathe life into rituals and ceremonies for millennia. A mask can instill fear, or protect us. Masks can obscure our physical identity, or they can express identities unseen. They not only represent spirits, they encapsulate them.

Sneakers are a balance of style & function, often imbued with novelty & nostalgia. For some of us they hold childhood memories, for others they become whole new identities.

Sole Vessel Volume 1 brings together the first 126 sneaker masks created by Freehand Profit in his second & highly anticipated art book. Writings and excerpts from the artist help readers navigate and gain a more in-depth understanding of what these masks represent and why he makes them.

This week I’ll be unveiling a new sneaker mask made from Wolf Grey 5s. Before we dive in let’s take a look at this custom Carhartt jacket. First I dyed the jacket using RIT dye for a closer match to the “Wolf Grey”. Next I hand painted segments to replicate the shoes of dissected Jordan 5s, and even painting the iconic contrast stitching. Lastly I used both machine and hand sewing techniques to patch large holes in the vintage Carhartt jacket with pieces of Wolf Grey 5s leftover from the mask making process.

Who locked in a pair of Wolf Grey 5s this morning? This pair holds a special place in my own sneakers story, and this mask is long past due. But I couldn’t have achieved my vision fully without the last 15 years of developing my technique. It’s not quite done but it’s about 90% done rn so I thought I’d share anyway. I procrastinated on the Wolf Grey 5 mask for so long that they’re about to retro them this month. Let’s see if I can finish making a mask out of the 2011 pairs before they drop on February 28th!
