Sometimes the reception gets all the love and attention - but around here, our favorite part is the ceremony. šŸ–¤ We love it when couples keep the traditional elements that they love but also mix it up by adding elements that make it so THEM.

We love it when Mom & Dad get to walk the bride down the aisle, when the vows are handwritten, when there are grown men scattering flower petals down the aisle. We love when couples plant a tree, or even have a tea ceremony to unite their families. WE LOVE the creative parts of the ceremony that make a wedding so very special!

And we REALLY love getting to be the ones who tell the bride when it's time to walk down the aisle. That's a special role we will never get tired of! 🄰🄰

Comfortable guests are happy guests.

Happy guests stay longer, dance harder, and leave with amazing memories. It's true!

As you plan your wedding, it's important to prioritize guest comfort because it makes for a happier wedding for everyone. It's worth the thought on the front end! Here are some conversations to have and things to think through to prioritize guest comfort...

⭐Consider shade, hydration stations, and fans for summer weddings—or blankets and heaters for fall.

⭐Make sure there’s comfortable seating during transitions (ceremony to cocktail hour, for example).

⭐Provide clean, accessible restrooms, especially for outdoor or private property venues.

There’s a lot that goes into being a member of a wedding party, so try to make it a stress-free process for your friends and fam. Communicate well! Be considerate of their time and money, because at the end of the day, they’re supporting you in one of the biggest events of your life – what an amazing gift! Here’s what to communicate with your wedding party, and when.

⭐Initial Timeline⭐
Send out a rough draft of your timeline as soon as you get it – especially if your wedding party needs to travel; they may need to take time off of work, purchase flights, rental cars, etc. Try to get this rough draft to them 2-3 months in advance.

⭐Detailed Timeline⭐
3-4 weeks before the wedding, send out a duper detailed version of your timeline to your wedding party (including events that are required/optional) so they can prepare and be ready to enjoy and support! You’re going to want to spend as much time with your favorite people as possible, so include time in the weekend for quality time with them. Go on a golf outing, take a hike, or just have lunch.

⭐Responsibilities⭐
Your wedding party wants to help, but they can’t do that if they don’t know what to do! Make sure expectations are clear, especially relating to planning bachelor(ette) parties, planning or attending showers, crafting or stuffing envelopes, setting up or tearing down venues, etc.

⭐Attire⭐
As soon as you decide on attire for your wedding, communicate that to your wedding party. Consider comfort and price range for choosing dresses, suits, and tuxes – make decisions about jewelry, makeup, nail polish, or shoes, and communicate in time for everyone to be prepared. For suits and tux rentals, make sure to give your guys information about where to get measured, how to order, and how to return rented attire.

Your wedding day is about celebrating your love—but it’s also about creating a meaningful and memorable experience for the people who matter most to you. As a wedding planner who’s overseen hundreds of events, I’ve seen firsthand how small etiquette missteps can have a big impact on your guests’ comfort and enjoyment. The good news? Most of these issues are completely avoidable with thoughtful planning.

If you want your guests to leave saying, ā€œThat was the best wedding I’ve ever been to,ā€ here are ten etiquette guidelines to help you get there—and how to navigate each one with grace and confidence.

First of all, Emily & Kian made wedding planning decisions with their guests in mind, without a doubt! You can tell in these gorgeous photography images that everyone is having a complete blast.

One of our favorite things to plan with couples is a sendoff at the end - the final moment that marks the end of the party, marks when guests can head home, and a final celebration for the bride & groom. We especially loved Randi & Jake's sparkler sendoff and how Savannah Steiger Photography captured the joy! ⭐⭐

To prepare for Sara & Todd's reception at Round Lake Farms in Brillion, Wisconsin, their well-chosen, incredible vendors were at our side making the space breathtaking. The lush garland (from the aisle, remember?!) was brought to the reception to act as centerpieces to a dinner full of great wine, cocktails, food, and more desserts than you can count. Set atop burgundy tablecloths with lace overlay, our bride literally squealed with delight. What’s not to love!

Big love to the incredible vendors who made this beauty happen --

We love the magic, calm, peace of a well-laid out wedding morning. When the bride and groom have prepared well beforehand, (or, if they hire us, or another great wedding planner!), this time in the morning can be the peaceful zen moments before everyone arrives, before the activity starts, before the crowd appears.

Without good pre-planning and a great planner, this morning can feel burdened by sorting out details, making sure vendors arrive on time, and putting out fires that inevitably to arise. We love being the planner who can smooth out these bumps so the bride and groom don't even need to be aware of the bumps in the first place.

When the flower girl sees the bride and groom for the first time - a magical, precious first look of sorts ⭐

Here's a moment we love and appreciate on many fronts - first of all, moved to see the bride and groom take time in their busy day to connect with their tiniest guests and wedding party members. Second of all, grateful to Anna Grace Photography for paying close attention to these moments of the day that highlight connection and authentic emotion. Way to go Anna!!!

Here's a tip for communicating with your wedding party in a loving way - and it has to do with MONEY! Read on.

Be up front with your friends when you ask them to consider being in your wedding party! Give them an ā€œoutā€ – share your hopes for how they can engage with their financial responsibilities, and free them up to say no if that sounds like a heavy burden. It’s better to communicate and jump in or out ahead of time rather than getting upset and stressed over finances as the wedding day approaches.

Think about it. Often, wedding party members can be investing in bachelorette/bachelor parties, buying or renting wedding day attire, wedding weekend transportation and lodging, gifts...the costs can reallllllly add up.

Communicate early and often with your wedding party, and free them up to participate in your wedding in a way that makes them feel loved and valued, but not taken advantage of financially. Discussing this ahead of time will make sure that your wedding party isn't spending more than they are comfortable with, and helping to keep your friendship strong!

We've got more thoughts on how to communicate well with your wedding party, and what to talk about - explore our recent blog on the topic, linked here:

There’s a lot that goes into being a member of a wedding party, so try to make it a stress-free process for your friends by over-communicating and putting yourself in their shoes.
