We took advantage of not hosting a wedding this weekend and got caught up on some house, barn and farm activities. Today, I conquered a half marathon with the support of the family.

Just like planning a wedding, training for a run of this distance takes time and dedication. In the end, all the hard work is worth it. It is fun to finally cross the finish line of a race or being named Mr. & Mrs!

Now a quick rest before we gear up for a full month of weddings.

Having separate spaces for everyone to get ready on wedding day is a must.

The ladies spend the morning here having hair and makeup done, enjoying time together, sharing laughs, and soaking in the excitement before the ceremony. Meanwhile, the Guys often arrive a little closer to ceremony time, get changed, relax, and grab a few “before” photos before the day officially begins.

Enjoying some Friday night plant therapy with the flowers and crops.

It is is an unbelievable amount of work to farm, own a wedding venue and raise two kids. Sometimes we wonder why we keep doing it, day after day.

BUT...

I am able to take a breath, count our blessings and enjoy the peace after the work is done, while thanking God for the life he gave us.

Rather than traditional auction items, you’ll have the opportunity to “fund” specific needs, like covering the cost of a concert, supporting guest artists, or providing tuition for a student in the CWYSO. Some wedding days come with unexpected moments — for Kayla & Christopher, it was a chilly, windy ceremony day. Since they were planning from a few hours away, much of our communication happened through emails and answering all of those little questions along the way. Even with the changing weather, our goal stayed the same: helping their day feel relaxed and making sure both they and their guests were comfortable.

May weddings may not be as popular as the fall months, but they bring a beauty all their own. 🌸 Right now, our crab apple trees are in full bloom, creating a soft, colorful backdrop for wedding photos around the property. The smell is amazing! While September and October tend to book quickly, don’t overlook the charm that springtime at the barn can offer.

Today we opened our Conservation Classroom by hosting 50 freshman students to teach them about soils, water quality/watershed, macroinvertebrates, prairie ecosystems and careers in conservation. They also had a Q & A with local farmers.

Hands-on learning, fresh air and real-world connections made for a meaningful day.

While we enjoy hosting weddings, we also like to invest in the next generation of farmers and land stewards.
