The Red Oak Farmer’s Thanksgiving Market is fast approaching. We will be taking pre-orders for food items that can be picked up at LOCAL on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

You can also pick up a form tonight if you are attending the Holiday Extravaganza.

Food/snack items are all made by the kids for sale. They purchase materials, make the items and help with the display. Clark - popcorn; Grant - covered pretzels, Addie - snack mixes. Grant’s turkey pretzels sell out fast - pre-orders are recommended.

We will also have centerpieces at the Thanksgiving Market to brighten a Thanksgiving table or sideboard. We are not taking pre-orders. Stop by the Thanksgiving Market to select a unique piece.

Temperatures dipped a little too low last night even for the cold endurance flowers to survive in cold frames so our baby snapdragons had to shelter inside.

Eleven trays upstairs another 6 trays in the basement. These little snapdragons need to be hardened off so they can be planted. Over 900 seedlings taking up a lot of space right now!

-the variance in size is due to different planting times in order to hopefully have waves of flowers all season long

I think we are full inside under the grow lights! Need to be able to start moving some of these cold lovers outside.

Today we started ranunculus - first time for us. They look like little tentacled beings.

Our baby eucalyptus are absolutely adorable!

Lots can happen between now and planting and harvest but we hope to have some stunning flowers to market this year! We learned in our youth that farming has a broad and detailed skill set, yet, still completely in the hands of God and nature.

We enjoyed seeing the crocus in bloom today!

Today the kids worked on cleaning up the big flower “field.” Meanwhile, I planted the sweet peas, delphinium, phlox, larkspur and 12 varieties of poppies!

And yes, I realize half of the flowers planted today are considered poisonous. Yet so beautiful. We will have our Market bouquets marked for your knowledge this year if anything is potentially hazardous to person or pet.

Now we need some moisture. Yes, even after all that snow, we are extremely dry.

Early start on some poppies and a few other hardy plants! Have not tried this method before but others have found good success so using my research background to see how this goes!

If anyone has some extra 1 gallon milk or water jugs they would like recycled we would be happy to utilize them! I guess we need to drink more milk 🥛 at our house.

Cold as cold can be outside but the seeds need to be started! Planted two trays last week and two trays today. I so badly want to fill it to the brim but have to pace myself or I’ll run out of room for things needing to be planted later.

So far- lisianthus, lavender, eucalyptus, pansy and viola.

First time using our new seed set up - hope it works!

Thankful for the warm weather. We cleaned out the shop and put all the Christmas items back in their place. Took inventory. Gave the goats a delightful Christmas treat (because we know there are no chemicals on our few left over branches it’s safe for them). Turned out the lights.

We have one last wreath to hang on Cynthy Spencer’s (mom/grandma’s) grave.

We thank all of you for the amazing season we had this year. Wishing all of you a peaceful and blessed Christmas season and a joyous New Year!
