Enormous gratitude to St. Louis Public Radio and NPR for the opportunity to speak to a national audience about the effects of tariffs on the floral industry. I feel honored to be highlighted and to be in the company of other amazing local flower growers and designers. If you need another reason to support local agriculture and to buy flowers from local growers, this is your Slow Flowers moment đŸ„°. https://www.npr.org/2025/05/21/nx-s1-5393911/tariffs-on-flowers-likely-mean-higher-prices-but-opportunity-for-local-farmers Thank you Marissanne and Brian for the words, visuals and willingness to spend a day through the looking glassđŸ„°.

T’was the night before Christmas and here on the farm,
the barn was aglow, but no cause for alarm.
The goats are all snuggled in drifts of warm bedding,
Mini donkeys share a small cozy stall without fretting.
Ducks in and chicks roosted before foxes come out,
Quacking geese protested but settled down with a pout.
The horses eat hay, their breath clouds of steam in the night,
In the lit barn, toy trains circle a tiny village dusted in white.
On the bluffs of the river, families of deer lift regal heads to the moon,
To witness cousin reindeer fly, a toy-filled sled with Santa here soon.
At home, presents wrapped, dishes washed, the turkey was spared.
We don’t eat our friends for happy farm memories shared.
Animals on this farm are for petting, cuddling and lovin’
Here they live happily knowing they’ll never see an oven.
Christmas toys, balls, and bones have made three sound sleeping pups,
In the kitchen, hot cocoa ready for mini marshmallows in cups.
Holiday PJs on, warm snuggly robes and plush slippers on feet,
Watching Holiday movies with a fire, a tradition that can’t be beat.
Bing Crosby croons ‘White Christmas’ with his classic old-world charm,
May your holidays be bright and filled with as much love as this farm.

A week ago I was outside snipping buds and small celosia to dry and press and it was such a gorgeous day that I was hot in a t-shirt and swapped back to my standard summer uniform,a tank top. Here we are a week later, and the snow just keeps falling (and falling), and I can't help but feel a little sad. I miss the flowers. I miss the way they made me dream about them, and pop out of bed with a sense of purpose and urgency. I always worry about missing something or a flower blooming without me noticing. Growing flowers feels more like raising children to me. Growing everything from seed makes me emotionally connected to the process in a way that is both ecstatic and heartbreaking. Like an empty-nester, I miss them. I miss taking care of them. I miss checking in and recording all their milestones and growth. I miss talking to them (yes I talk to flowers) and I miss looking out over thousands of blooms and feeling like a painter at the art supply store. Now that the outside flowers are done, I'm happy to report that I stockpiled all sorts of floral materials for lots of fun flower-related projects to still feel connected to all the blooms. I promise I will share some of the things I'm working on soon, but I also wanted to say that our seed sale is about to begin. I've got 86 different varieties and mixes that I've made for all of you out there who also design with flowers like their artist paints. Boy have I made some incredible celosia mixes, Pollinator combinations, dahlias, zinnias and all my favorite floral artist 'tools' to share with all of you. I'm so proud of them and can't wait to show them to you. Once I figure out how to get them all uploaded to my website,
I'll wave a flag and let everyone know when it's live.

Hi world! I wanted to take a moment and reintroduce myself to anyone following along. Firstly, I appreciate you for going beyond clicking the ❀, and deciding to ‘follow’. That is so kind of you and it tells me something I’ve created or done is of interest to you.
I am a farmer florist in St. Louis Missouri. I have been growing flowers since 2009 as a way to supplement the floral I was using in my floral designs for wedding clients booked here on our farm for weddings (Kuhs Estate and Farm). Discovering the Slow Flowers Movement, I began shifting away from any dependence on flowers not grown locally. To distinguish this shift in business model and pivot to focusing on a greater audience off property, I created a separate business (Queen Bee Blooms) to embody and highlight my mission and methods.
I am a creator at heart, and love to create visual art through any material that inspires me. Flowers are my favorite medium, and I am best described as an ‘artist who grows her own crayons’. I love to write and document the natural beauty I am privileged to bear witness to through photography and my remedial videography skills. I love the nerd science aspects of nature and growing things, and I especially love sharing and teaching. Flowers and the emotions they inspire are a universal language. I have yet to meet another person, whose eyes don’t light up a little bit when I tell them what I do.
My intention with my social media feeds is to bring you along with me virtually to see what I see, fall in love with the beauty of things, learn something new, savor a magical sunset and always have something beautiful to share. I think sharing beauty and love is very needed in the world.
Since I can’t squeeze your hand personally to come show you something out in the flowers, this is the best that I can do. Thank you for following, and if you would be so kind to leave a comment about the type of content that interests you, makes your day a little bit better or brighter, I would appreciate it. Again, Thank You. 😊
