Okay, food people. This one is for you.

I went to culinary school before photography became my full-time life, which means I am absolutely paying attention to the food at weddings.

Not just whether dinner got served.

Was it good? Did it feel thoughtful? Did the menu actually fit the couple? Did cocktail hour have people circling back for seconds? Were the potatoes properly seasoned? Important questions. 😂

So I put together a guide to some of my favorite St. Louis wedding venues and caterers for couples who want the food to be part of the experience, not just something everybody eats before they start dancing.

Featuring spots like The Bellwether and The Dogwood, plus caterers including Seed Sprout Spoon, The Social Affair, and Ces & Judy’s.

Small weddings are not the “lesser” version of weddings.

I will die on this hill.

Some of the sweetest weddings I’ve photographed have had 30, 50, 75 people in the room. Everybody actually knows each other. You get to hug your people. Dinner feels like dinner instead of banquet service for a small city. The conversations get louder. The stories get better.

And St. Louis has some REALLY good spaces for this.

I put together a list of 17 small and intimate wedding venues in St. Louis with actual character, not just empty event rooms where you have to bring in $14,000 worth of stuff to make them interesting.

There’s Verde on Cherokee, Piper Palm House, Stupp Center, City Cottage, The Dogwood, The Barnett, The Leona, a.casa and a bunch more.

A few of these I’ve photographed personally, so I included some of the things I’ve actually learned from being in the room while a wedding is happening; including why I love the Barnett team SO. FRIGGIN. MUCH., the rainbow wedding I photographed at Verde, and a Piper Palm House + Stupp Center combination that worked beautifully for an intimate wedding.

So…

So this is a mix of personal and work… which I’m not sure I recommend (I can’t believe she’s a senior) - but my baby girl is a senior graduating this May and I’m not ready. We went to Henry Cowell Redwood State Park and played around San Francisco and Oakland and I got to know my daughter. Gave her her first slurpee. And just got to know her as a person and not just my kid.

She’s amazing.

This session with Josie was special special.

I’ve known her family forever, so flying to Philly to walk her neighborhood and photograph this season of her life was the easiest yes. Josie is bright, stylish as hell, and has that kind of smile that makes you feel like the future already knows her name.

Early spring showed up with blooms everywhere, Philly gave us all the charm, and Josie gave us main character energy without even trying.

She’s heading to Temple, and I just love getting to watch these kids grow up and go do big, beautiful things.

Josie, I’m rooting for you loud. Always. ✨

Ethan + Aurora caught St. Louis in her soft girl era, and honestly? She showed out.

We spent some time at the St. Louis Art Museum, because nothing says timeless romance like beautiful architecture, big feelings, and pretending we’re all casually this adorable on a regular Tuesday. I’ve watched Rory turn into this beautiful woman. We made our way to Tower Grove while the cherry blossoms were blooming, and the whole city basically said, “Here, have a love story with petals.”

I do love my city.

Spring engagement sessions in St. Louis are always a little bit magic, but these two brought the sweet, the playful, and the kind of connection that makes my camera act like it has a crush too.

Ethan + Aurora, I cannot wait for your wedding day. If this session was the preview, whew. We’re in for something beautiful.
