Starting at 6:30 a.m., Thursday, June 4, United Way volunteers will be at key intersections across Olean, Allegany, Portville, and Salamanca, selling special $1 editions of the Olean Times Herald during the annual Community Day newspaper sale.

More than just a long-standing tradition, the event helps raise awareness of the many local programs and services supported through United Way.

Each paper highlights the work of partner agencies making a difference every day in the lives of children, seniors, families, and individuals throughout our counties.

Organizations featured through Community Day include groups such as Girl Scouts of Western New York, Genesis House of Olean, and the YMCA of the Twin Tiers, among many others providing critical support and opportunities within the community.

The United Way also provides annual support to programs that are important to the St. Bonaventure community, including The Warming House and Bona Buddies.

Rain or shine, volunteers will be out throughout the morning sharing smiles, gratitude, and stories of hope in our towns. Whether you’re heading to work or grabbing your morning coffee, be sure to say hello and grab a paper.

“Every year, we’re amazed by the generosity and spirit of the community during Community Day,” says Executive Director Susan McAuley. “This event is a chance not only to support United Way, but also to recognize and celebrate the organizations working every day to help our neighbors thrive.”

St. Bonaventure to host Esports Summer Day Camp July 6-10 for middle, high school students

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., May 29, 2026 — A limited number of spots remain available in St. Bonaventure University’s Esports Summer Day Camp, scheduled for July 6–10, 2026. The camp offers middle and high school students an immersive, hands-on introduction to competitive gaming, teamwork and esports-related careers.

Held in The Game Room on the second floor of the university’s Reilly Center, the camp is designed for students who are passionate about gaming and interested in improving their skills while learning what it takes to compete and collaborate in a team-based environment.

“This camp goes beyond playing games,” said Christian Greer, head coach of the St. Bonaventure varsity esports program. “Participants will learn how to train effectively, communicate as a team and develop healthy gaming habits.”

Throughout the week, campers will engage in structured gameplay, skill-development sessions, and team-based challenges. In addition to improving game-specific abilities, participants will be introduced to the broader esports ecosystem, including livestreaming, event management and career opportunities in the rapidly growing industry.

A highlight of the program is a capstone experience in which campers will work together to plan, organize and host a live esports event for family and friends on the final day. The event provides hands-on experience in leadership, collaboration and event production.

SBU's cutting-edge esports arena features five high-performance competition PCs located on a “Battle Ramp” as well as 12 general-use computers. Two massive LED walls showcase gaming action and video footage.

The camp is open to students entering grades 8–12. The cost is $499 per student. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required within two business days of registration confirmation to secure a spot. Enrollment is limited to ensure a personalized and engaging experience.

For more information or to register, visit www.sbu.edu/summercamps.

♻️ HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! ♻️
