I thought I’d let ya know what happened with me in the hospital to take care of my clogged stent from ten years ago. I think it’s amazing the advances in medicine! I had two blockages, one was a new clot in the front main artery in my heart. They put another stent in to take care of it. Ok… here’s the cool part… So, imagine my stent was an empty paper towel roll. I entered in to a new trial study for Centennial and a company that makes the Paclitaxel Stent Balloon , a five year study. I’m the first to receive it at Centinnial. Paclitaxel is a chemo drug better known as Taxol! It’s been used as a chemo drug for decades. This company coats a stent balloon with this chemo drug. My cardiologist went up my wrist to my heart, cleaned the scar tissue out of that stent( paper towel roll), then runs the Paclitaxel ballon into the stent, inflate it, let it sit for a few minutes, then deflates the balloon and removes it. The Paclitaxel adheres to the scar tissue inside my old stent…. Over time, just like it kills cancer cells, it kills the scar tissue, hopefully to keep stents from scarring and clogging! We’ll see. I’m soo thankful for my cardiologist Brian Jefferson for bringing this trial study to America! It’s been used in Europe for twenty years. I’m just amazed that God gives people like my cardiologist and hospital staff to keep people like me alive. Just thought I’d share this exciting new procedure.
