About Us

Welcome to Aspen Acres!

Inspired by the branching aspen trees adorning our beloved Black Hills, Aspen Acres was founded on a blank slate with the desire to become a select location for couples to embark on their harmonious journey of life together. Just as pairs of aspens begin to grow and develop as a single organism with a deep, shared root system, we at Aspen Acres seek to be the starting point in uniting star-crossed lovers in the beautiful vow of marriage.

It all began in February 2018, when Dan, the love of my life, finally popped the BIG question during a trip to New Zealand! I am Tia Berens: a Black Hills State University alumni, dedicated dreamer, and service-driven entrepreneur. My husband, Dan Berens, is an Iowa native and a primary care physician in Spearfish. Together, our greatest passions are helping others, giving back, and exploring the great outdoors- mountain biking, skiing, and hiking amongst the aspens with our dog, Bro!

Once we became engaged, the pursuit of the perfect wedding venue quickly began. Unfortunately, we soon found that our endearing little town in the Black Hills was quite limited in venues that could accommodate the blessing of our large families, as well as our personal styles. As the enthusiastic business-minded daughter of two entrepreneurs who always had permission to take the chance, fail, learn, and succeed, I began to dream of owning a wedding venue. With the loving support and guidance of my fiancé, family, friends, and the Small Business Association (SBA), the Barn was envisioned and Aspen Acres was born!
