2025 Season - That's A Wrap
What a Great 2025 Season!
The 2025 summer season ended on September 30. Our traveling and local volunteers finished up the summer and we were fortunate to have such a wonderful group who were willing to do whatever was needed to help staff. Overall, the number of visitors to the hatchery stayed consistent with last year. The approximate 190,000 visitors that come to the hatchery throughout the year are so excited and appreciative of the services they experience while on the hatchery grounds. Recent reviews from Trip Advisor can be found at the bottom of this email.
Federal Updates
• With the government shutdown on October 1, the hatchery has been open intermittently when staff are on the grounds taking care of fish. They are doing their best to keep it open, but since only aquaculture work is permitted during this time, it is likely that the gates will be closed the majority of the time until government funding is restored.
• Friends groups are not allowed to work on federal property during the shutdown. Booth Society staff, have been working from home, with a few exceptions when we’ve had to retrieve files or make sure the gift shop is properly secured.
Hatchery Holidays!
SAVE THE DATE!
The gift shop will be open during Hatchery Holidays,
December 4-7. Stay tuned for more details.
The Booth House, Pond Gift Shop and the grounds will be decked out for the holidays. If you, or someone you know would like to play or perform background music as folks tour the house, please contact us at [email protected] for more information. If treats or cookies are your specialty, we will be accepting donations to add to the food table. We also appreciate those who host or hostess and welcome guests and give a brief overview of the Booth House and hatchery.
We hope to have some special surprises on the grounds and we will update as activities develop.
Hearts Full of Gratitude!
As the 2025 season closes out, we sincerely thank you for your continued support thru donations, memberships, and purchases in the gift shop which all help keep the fish hatchery open and a free family attraction. We are excited to celebrate 130 years in Spearfish, and 250 years as a country in 2026. We look forward to seeing you.

What Our Visitors Say...
Our Reviews!
"Awesome place, very informative. They were gathering fish to take to wyoming the day we were there. Although they are closed for the season, they still let you look at the fish. You just can't go into the buildings."
"Lots of trout!!! Not able to get much info as gift shop was closed and only one worker due to government shutdown. ."
"This was one of the best hidden jewels in the Sturgis, Deadwood, Spearfish area!!! Many excellent historical exhibits. Lots of Brown Trout from fingerlings to Fry to huge mature fish on display! It is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. Gets some fish food for $1 and watch the fish go wild getting their share!"
