Did you know that when you Elope or get Married, we take care of your Marriage License for you. Here are the particulars:
~ Must be 18 years old or 16 with parental consent.
~ Apply at least 4 calendar days before your marriage but not more than 60.
~Social Security numbers (if you have them).
~ Can reside in any state and apply for a marriage license in Wisconsin.
~ Go to any County Clerk's Office in Wisconsin and apply for the license.
~ Must have a Certified English Birth Certificate.
~ Current photo ID (Driver's License, anything you can use for voting purposes)
~ Proof of residency the date you come into the County Clerk's Office (driver's license, utility bill, rent receipt - something with your current address)
~ Previous Marriages - must have Divorce or Death Decree.
Monroe County charges $75 for Marriage License. Pay by cash or check. Debit or credit cards not accepted.
~ $25 additional fee if you need to waive the 4-day waiting period. Waiving the waiting period can only be approved by the County Clerk.
~ The Monroe County Clerk Office is open 8 - 11:30 a.m. Monday - Friday by appointment only.
~ Must know the County and the City, Village or Township you currently reside in. (Rural addresses have fire numbers, this will have your Township information).
~ Must know the County and the City, Village or Township you are getting married in. (Rural addresses have fire numbers, this will have your Township information).
~ Both parties must be present.
~ Monroe County Clerk's Office: 202 South "K" Street, Sparta WI 54656, 608-269-8705
~ Not mandatory - correct spelling of Name of Officiant, Address and Phone Number.
~ Officiant can drop off completed Marriage License at any Register of Deeds Office in Wisconsin.
