This beautifully reimagined residence on 1.86 acres was once the Grand Ballroom Clubhouse of the Southampton Hunt & Riding Club, the original site of the Southampton Horse Show (known today as the Hampton Classic), and the place where young Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis rode and competed as a youngster, along with her sister, Caroline Lee Bouvier Radziwill. In 2005 the building was transformed into a beautiful private residence with a massive gut renovation which included the installation of a new professional kitchen with Carrara marble countertops and Viking appliances, new baths, reframing for the bedrooms, and a large kitchen/dining area, and much more. The Grand Ballroom, now a light-filled open living area with soaring ceilings, features two original brick fireplaces flanking both ends of the space, original wood paneling throughout, and full-height ceilings with original exposed beams. Original wrought iron curtain rods and light fixtures remain in the ballroom from the original build-out of the site. There is hardwood ebony-stained flooring in the living areas and slate flooring in the kitchen.
This is a property built for those who entertain and appreciate the history, the equestrian sport, and the Hamptons. The ballroom holds the original 8 French doors that were crafted for the space; the 4 on the west side open to the original slate-floored screened-in porch/entertaining room. This room opens up fully to the outdoors, providing a huge entertaining space and indoor-outdoor living - a dream location for a winter or summer soiree. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths; a master and a guest room both have French doors opening to the garden on the east side.
The detached garage, once a carriage house, may be transformed into an office per zoning permissions (CR-20). Though the home dates back to 1920, it is not officially a landmarked site.
