Last week on a coaching call (because yes, we offer coaching for planners and designers!), I was reviewing a case study when a student asked why I often incorporate two different styles of chairs, napkins, or chargers into a design.
My answer was simple: sometimes, to elevate your design and set it apart from the rest, you have to be willing to go against the norm. The most memorable events aren’t always created by playing it safe. They come from being bold, taking calculated risks, and trusting your creative vision.
Design is about more than following trends. It’s about creating something unique, intentional, and unforgettable. Don’t be afraid to mix textures, styles, and elements in a way that tells a story and makes an impact.
The magic often happens when you step outside the expected.
