This architectural choice pays homage to our city's rich industrial heritage, particularly its historic shipbuilding industry. Notably, companies like Western Pipe & Steel operated shipyards in South San Francisco, contributing significantly to maritime construction during the early to mid-20th century.

Did you know our service entrance is dedicated to Joseph A. Fernekes? 🚪✨

Joseph A. Fernekes was a devoted public servant who played a significant role in the history of the South San Francisco Conference Center. As Vice-Mayor of The City of South San Francisco – Government, he was here when the Conference Center officially opened on April 24, 1993. He later served as an Authority Board Member and Board Chair for many years. A longtime councilman and former mayor, Joe always believed that the front entrances should be reserved for the clients of the Conference Center—so in his honor, our service entrance was named after him.

His legacy lives on not only here but also through the Fernekes Building in Orange Park, which was named after him in 2008. His contributions to South San Francisco and our venue continue to be remembered and celebrated! 👏🏽

Last week, our Events Team traveled to Monterey, California for Meeting Professionals International - MPI Northern California Chapter ACE 2025! 🌊✨ Over the course of three days, they had the opportunity to network with industry professionals, attend insightful breakout sessions, and explore the latest trends in the events and hospitality industry. From inspiring keynote speakers to making meaningful connections, this trip was filled with valuable experiences that will help our team continue to deliver exceptional events here at the South San Francisco Conference Center.
