Celebrating John Hutar and His Years of Partnership 👏

Our recent Quarterly Hotel Partners Meeting at the South San Francisco Conference Center was a special one as we had the opportunity to recognize John Hutar, President & CEO of The San Francisco Peninsula following his retirement announcement.

John has been a valued partner and a familiar presence in our hospitality community for many years. We are incredibly grateful for his leadership, collaboration, and continued support of the The City of South San Francisco – Government and County of San Mateo - Government. His contributions have helped strengthen the relationships that make our local hospitality community so special.

As John begins this next chapter, we want to sincerely thank him for his years of partnership and wish him all the best in retirement.

The meeting also included an introduction from Lieutenant Sean Curmi of the South San Francisco Police Department, who introduced Sergeant Mindy Lopez, who will be taking over his community engagement duties moving forward. We look forward to continuing that partnership and working with Sergeant Lopez.

In this issue of SSFCC Archives, we are looking back at an exterior transformation that gave the South San Francisco Conference Center a refreshed look.

The Conference Center has seen a number of updates throughout its history, from larger expansions to smaller architectural changes that have helped shape the building visitors recognize today. The replacement of the original awnings was one of those changes, updating a distinctive feature of the building’s exterior while maintaining the character of its familiar entrance.

Captured during the renovation, these archive photos offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the work in progress before revealing the finished result.

Connecting Careers & Community at South San Francisco Conference Center 🎓🤝

The South San Francisco Conference Center was proud to welcome the HireUC Alumni Career Summit, bringing together alumni, graduate students, and doctoral candidates from across the University of California system for an afternoon of career exploration and professional connection.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers representing a wide range of industries, explore new career paths, build their networks, and even update their professional headshots.

The summit created a welcoming space for meaningful conversations, new connections, and the next steps in attendees’ careers.

Celebrating 100 Years of Community & Culture.

The South San Francisco Conference Center was honored to host the Progressive Youth of Morong in America (PYMA) Centennial Celebration, commemorating 100 years of community, service, and Filipino-American heritage.

Originally organized in 1926 by young immigrants from Morong, Rizal, Philippines, PYMA has played a vital role in supporting generations of Filipino-Americans, preserving cultural traditions, and giving back to communities in both the Philippines and the United States.

The celebration brought together members of the PYMA community, families, and distinguished guests, including South San Francisco Vice Mayor Mark Nagales, Daly City Councilmember Pamela DiGiovanni, Philippine Consul General Arnel Talisayon, and Consul Hannah Go.

We were proud to be part of this historic milestone and to provide a space where generations could come together to celebrate a century of tradition, connection, and community.
