Every year, Colombine reminds me why I keep space for whimsy—just enough. There’s something about those nodding, intricate blooms that feels both wild and deliberate. Like they know exactly what they’re doing.

They scatter themselves with quiet confidence, weaving through established beds and filling the gaps in spring before the heavy-hitters show up. Deer mostly leave them alone, and the pollinators certainly don’t.

I don’t coddle them. I let them wander, reseed, and surprise me. And they never overstay their welcome. This variety is called "Earlybird Red-White

When Broadway Gardens first opened we grew vegetables and annual flowers. In fact, our Hubbard squash was quite popular in those days. Over the years we have expanded our selection of annuals, brought in trees and shrubs and now focus on perennial plants. We are proud to claim one of the largest perennial selections in northern New England. From the Achillea to Viola we have the plants that will keep your gardens blooming year after year. Our biggest success over the years is being a part of this amazing community in South Portland and southern Maine.
