Ten or so years ago our sweetest angel Pearl, a three pound oatmeal colored chihuahua passed away. Everyone who knew her fell in love. She was seriously the best dog ever. When my heart was ready to take in another senior chihuahua, i drove 6 hours to rescue Walter. He was also 3 pounds and was about 12 or so years old. He was feisty, (well, kinda mean really). He bit everyone who even looked his way. He had no teeth but the sound he made when he bit people was scary enough to make you jump. He didn’t bite me…i don’t think it’s because he particularly liked me, but he tolerated me. My husband made his ground up food (no teeth), walked him every day and fed him by hand. Walter would still try to bite him. We would have people over for dinner, and i warned them not to even look at him, but he was so cute people would try to get a little touch in. He went for them every time. When Charles and I would leave town he would let and our friend Marc .face sit next to him, but no petting. Walter even went through a phase where he would let kiss his neck, but noooooo touching! He let me pet his back very gently, kiss his neck, when i held him he would lay his head on my shoulder and after he ate he would snuggle up against me for 15 minutes. Then back to his bed with a heating pad. He eventually went deaf and blind. I had to carry him to go outside, etc. Yesterday at the age of 22 he finally pooped out. I took him to the vet and he tried to bite the doctor in his last breath. Boy oh boy he was a handful. But i loved that little man. I hope he’s happy in doggy heaven and not trying to bite everyone!
