BIG announcement this weekend- you won’t want to miss this one!

Sun is back out today - so I’m busy pulling tulips. My first round of doubles are in full swing! For all of you asking- I’m finalizing some pick up locations and hope to have them set up beginning next week. Let’s get some of these beauties out into the world! 🌱

Easing into tulips again this fall. While we normally put around 4,000 in the ground… I decided to start slow as we continue to put in beds. 1,500 bulbs went in today - tucked in with a soft blanket of soil and compost. 🌱

Sometimes things just don’t go as you planned.

The first week of February I spent organizing my garden shed and getting everything staged for seed starting. Seeds, soil, labels and trays set out on my indoor potting bench. Grow lights plugged in and ready to roll. Anemone and ranunculus in bags ready to be soaked and sprouted.

And then, while rushing around the house tidying I fell. My youngest had gotten sick in the night and I was carrying her bedding downstairs to be washed. What I didn’t realize was that the fitted sheet was hanging down… so when I stepped down the first step, I actually stepped into the sheets. I flew down the stairs on my leg. The result: a turned around foot and dislocated ankle with multiple spiral fractures.

After the ambulance ride, surgery, and hospital stay… it really started to sink in: eight weeks before I’m standing. Mid April before I’m getting around independently and unsupported. On top of now feeling useless to my family, in pain, and feeling trapped… the realization that another growing season put on hold was realized. To say I was (and am still) heartbroken and frustrated would be an understatement.

It’s been almost 6 weeks since I fell. Our family has been supported in so many ways by our wonderful family, neighbors, and friends. We are so grateful. This isn’t how I had planned it- but I’m doing the best to surrender and embrace the “rest” and the slow down that God clearly thought I needed. Spring has come even though I wasn’t ready… bringing with it warmer temperatures, sunny days, and the first signs of life of the peony plants my cousin and I worked so hard to get in the ground late last fall.

Today was one of the first days I was able to get out and wheel myself around my gardens on my scooter. My gears are turning on how to work towards getting the rest of my garden beds established. I’m still hopeful to have many dahlia and annuals planted this year. But I’ve also realized and embraced the silver lining to a slower season. I’m looking forward to soaking up all the small moments with my family in our new home this spring and summer. Taking things just one step at a time. 🌱
