The Park House is going to start sharing with you links to some of our favorite finds on Amazon and how we mix them with vintage or antique pieces!! My table here was an old market place find I did a little sanding on to bring out the natural oak. Amazon had the perfect chairs to go with it!! It doesn’t take much to bring an old piece to life you just have have a vision with a little elbow grease ❤️ Check out the link to chairs below!

Sour Lake history ❤️

Sour Lake Springs Hotel, c. 1905-1906

Sour Lake, Texas was originally called Sour Lake Springs because of the sulfur-infused waters of the nearby lake. In the 1840s, Sour Lake became a highly sought after destination, as the lake waters were believed to have wonderful healing properties. When the hotel opened in the 1850s, it even attracted visitors such as Sam Houston, who frequented the springs to soothe old battle injuries.

The presence of sulfur also indicated the area was rich with another important product - oil. After oil was discovered in Sour Lake 1902 in the wake of Spindletop, people flocked to the area in hopes to get rich quick. This ultimately led to the landscape changing significantly, causing the healing springs to all but disappear, and businesses like the Sour Lake Springs Hotel to eventually close.

This image of the hotel, from the Chambers House Museum Collections, was likely taken when Edith, her mother, sisters, and daughter Ruth visited after a quick trip to David French's home.
