Halloween is on a Friday this year and we are not taking anymore festivals for that night but we are taking home party rentals with drop off Thursday pick up Saturday.

On our website you will see a little story about the beginning of Merry Minstrel.

Back in the 1970s a man by the name of Sidney Smith created the first singing telegram in the United States. Thus began our Company, Merry Minstrel Singing Telegrams. Back in the 1980s, I was a young college student doing singing telegrams to pay my tuition. Little did I know, I would never give up the entertainment business.

I met Sidney in 1989. After doing singing telegrams for several years when he was selling his Orlando office I jumped ! (sadly part of the reason is because I was getting a degree in education and I was making more money doing singing telegram!)

He helped me move from St. Pete to Orlando where I took over the Orlando branch of Merry Minstrel and just like that I became a business owner at 22 years old.

We have done singing telegrams all the way through 2020 when Covid struck. I expanded the business to include children’s activities and eventually bouncy houses and more! I have a strong desire to start offering them again to keep Sidney’s legacy alive.

This is only one of his legacies. He also started the very first ghost tour in America called Haunted History Tours in New Orleans and he was a legendary rock photographer before that.

I will never forget him sitting on the floor of the Orlando office marketing for his new tour company while teaching me how to run a company.

Sidney passed away from Pancreatic Cancer yesterday. I will absolutely miss him. He was the kindest person you would ever meet. I only saw him a few times over the years I was raising my children but we remained friends long distance. I’m thankful I was able to see him last May.

I use the name Captain Carnival now but there will always be a little bit of Merry Minstrel in me!
