🌞 Come Soar camps have officially begun this today! This week, campers will be immersed ballet classes, explore music and movement, practice yoga, and enjoy Musical Theatre through drama and dancing to favorite songs from Frozen taught by our very own Ms. Cat! 🎶🎵

Musician, Teacher, Director Cat Austin (MA in Theatre & Music) founded the Experiential Theatre Company, dedicated to connecting young artists to their community through performance arts.

Since that time Ms. Cat has directed over 35 musical theatre productions. Most recently, she can be found teaching and directing in a variety of venues from her private vocal studio to public and private school settings.

Each spring, she is the Sonoma Trashion Fashion runway coach, training the models to fully step into their power as they walk the runway. April 2026 marked her 16th year in this position.

Ms. Cat also brings her expertise to the SCD dance floor on Saturday mornings as our Come Soar ballet instructor. She is honored and excited to bring her wealth of experience, knowledge, and fun to SCD’s Summer Dance Camps 2026 🩰

¡Los campamentos Come Soar (Ven a a Volar) oficialmente comenzaron hoy! Esta semana, los campistas estarán inmersos en clases de ballet, explorarán la música y el movimiento, practicarán yoga y disfrutarán de Teatro Musical a través del drama y el baile con sus canciones favoritas de Frozen, ¡impartido por nuestra querida señorita Cat!

La música, maestra y directora Cat Austin (Maestría en Teatro y Música) fundó la compañía Experiential Theatre Company, dedicada a conectar a jóvenes artistas con su comunidad a través de las artes escénicas.

La maestra Cat ha dirigido más de 35 producciones de teatro musical. Más recientemente, se le puede encontrar enseñando y dirigiendo en diversos espacios, desde su estudio privado de canto hasta escuelas públicas y privadas.

Cada primavera, es la entrenadora de pasarela de Sonoma Trashion Fashion, preparando a las modelos para que conecten con su poder y seguridad al caminar por la pasarela. Abril de 2026 marcó su año número 16 en este puesto.

La maestra Cat también comparte su experiencia en el salón de danza de SCD los sábados por la mañana como instructora de ballet de nuestro programa Come Soar (Ven a Volar). Se siente honrada y emocionada de aportar toda su experiencia, conocimientos y diversión a los Campamentos de Verano de Baile 2026 de SCD.

On April 13, SCD hosted an exclusive workshop with renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company members Isaiah Day and Hannah Alissa Richardson

Founded in 1958 by choreographer Alvin Ailey, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of the most celebrated modern dance companies in the world, recognized for its powerful storytelling, cultural impact, and commitment to celebrating the African American experience through dance. The company continues to tour internationally, inspiring generations of dancers and audiences alike.

“This is truly a dream come true,” said Artistic and Executive Director Patty O’Reilly. “I have been a devoted fan of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for decades. To now welcome company artists into our studio and offer this experience to our students is an incredible honor, and I am beyond excited for our dancers.”

El 13 de abril, SCD tuvo el honor de recibir un workshop exclusivo con los reconocidos integrantes de Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Isaiah Day y Hannah Alissa Richardson.

Months of rehearsals. Countless hours in the studio. One unforgettable production 🌙✨

Por la Luz de la Luna was brought to life through dedication, teamwork, and the collective heart of this community. From the first rehearsal to the final bow, every collaborative artist, dancer, teacher, staff, volunteer, and family member played a part in making this story shine. These moments, captured on stage, reflect not only the artistry of the performance, but the commitment and care that carried it every step of the way.

Por la Luz de la Luna se hizo realidad gracias a la dedicación, el trabajo en equipo y el corazón colectivo de esta comunidad. Desde el primer ensayo hasta la última reverencia, cada artista colaborador, bailarín, maestro, miembro del equipo, voluntario y familia formó parte de hacer brillar esta historia. At the heart of Por la Luz de la Luna is a story of love that endures through joy, loss, and beyond 💛

As Estela and Carmelo, Savanah and Aaron brought deep emotional honesty to the stage, carrying us through two powerful duets that marked different chapters of their story. The first, a celebration of marriage filled with connection, warmth, and shared dreams. The second, a veil between worlds. Estela dancing in remembrance, while Carmelo remained just beyond watching over her and Lucila, present in spirit.

Through every movement, their partnership revealed the quiet strength of love that does not disappear, even in absence. Their connection invited us to feel not only the beauty of what was, but the tenderness of what remains. Thank you, Savanah and Aaron, for telling this story with such depth and care.

Savanah is attending her junior year at Sonoma Valley High School. Savanah started dancing with SCD at age three, and has since then developed many amazing friendships and memories. Some of her favorite parts about Por la Luz de la Luna are the stunning choreography and emotional storyline. She is especially excited to be performing this show again because its story feels very relevant to the time and beautifully represents the importance of cultural preservation. Savanah’s passion for dance continues to grow each year at the studio as she improves her technique and learns other forms of dance, such as contemporary and hip hop. She hopes to continue dancing throughout college years and beyond.

Como Estela y Carmelo, Savanah y Aaron llevaron al escenario una profunda honestidad emocional, guiándonos a través de dos poderosos duetos que marcaron distintas etapas de su historia. El primero, una celebración del matrimonio, llena de conexión, calidez y sueños compartidos. El segundo, un velo entre mundos: Estela bailando desde el recuerdo, mientras Carmelo permanece más allá, velando por ella y por Lucila, presente en espíritu.

En cada movimiento, su interpretación reveló la fuerza silenciosa de un amor que no desaparece, incluso en la ausencia. Su conexión nos invitó a sentir no solo la belleza de lo que fue, sino también la ternura de lo que permanece. Gracias, Savanah y Aaron, por contar esta historia con tanta profundidad y sensibilidad.

Savanah cursa su tercer año en Sonoma Valley High School. Comenzó a bailar en SCD a los tres años, y desde entonces ha creado amistades y recuerdos muy especiales. Algunas de sus partes favoritas de Por la Luz de la Luna son la impresionante coreografía y la carga emocional de la historia. Le emociona especialmente volver a presentar esta obra, ya que siente que su mensaje es muy relevante en la actualidad y representa de manera hermosa la importancia de preservar la cultura. Su pasión por la danza sigue creciendo cada año en el estudio, mientras continúa desarrollando su técnica y explorando otros estilos como contemporáneo y hip hop. Espera seguir bailando durante sus años universitarios y más allá.
